Anyone know anything about the results???
Tomorrow I think
The only source I saw that Webb was running was in the T&F News link to this weekend's meet. In other words, we're not even close to sure that he's running.
Runflorida.com lists him as entered in the 800m.
So i hear the gun went off at 3:10.........any news????
he ran 1:52, peterson and mahoney went 1-2 in 1:49
Here are the results
i was at the meet and webb was out of it from the start. the race went out fast, webb got out slow and was in last place coming through the first lap. over the next two laps he tried to surge to get back into the race but they would not let him get by. there was quite a bit of pushing going on in the pack from what i saw. the last lap it appeared that webb knew he was out of it and kind of gave up. he finished second to last in his heat, passing someone fading at the end. some reporters attemped to get some quotes from both webb and rackzo after the race but were told that they were on a tight schedule and had a flight to make. however they stood there for the next few races and did not talk to any reporters. as far as i could tell, both webb and rackzo were very upset about the results and left quickly about 10 minutes after richard smiths race(a respectable showing by him,153). webb also seems to be much more lean than he was in his high school days. i dont have splits but i must say that i did expet much more from him.
I wish that Webb would have spoken to reporters, even if he just gave a few token comments. My opinion is that his salary and obligation to the sport calls for him to not shut out the media entirely. However, I hate to criticize him at a time when he is desperately looking to run better.
On another note, Ryan Deak ran a 4:11. Not too bad for early indoors....especially if he is not close to his peak yet.
Regardless of how old he is, his decision to turn pro does include certain obligations, especially if he wants to remain the media darling he was a few years ago. Critiques come with the territory. What is inexcusable is his refusal to talk to reporters (if true), if just to say that "I had a bad day" or "I'm base training" or whatever. While not an entirely relevant example, Marion Jones' refusal to talk to anyone for the past two months caused her situation to get way out of hand. Personally, I think he did have a bad day. I just wish he would have told someone that.

True, but those obligations are to the people paying his salary: Nike and Nike only. He doesn't owe you or me anything.
If Nike is unhappy with him, they will let him know about it.

Yet you are always quick to jump on Ron Warhurst's every move criticizing him.
Interesting double standards you have
His obligation is to his sponsor AND to the people who pay to see him perform.
Maybe he should have stayed at Michigan
"and to the people who pay to see him perform"
just for your info...It was no charge to watch the races at UF this weekend, so that rules out him having to talk to the reporters afterwords...and secondly...After reviewing my video of the race a few times...webb was stuck at the back from the get go...and after the first lap he surged on each straight away for the next 2 laps and would pass three people and look like he could move up...and then was shoved to the side on the turns and flung to the back again...I wouldn't count this race as a bad experience...i say its the best thing for him...he learned alot...and i say from the way the race went, him running in near 3rd lane on the turns and surging on the straights, he could have should have run 3+,4 seconds faster if he had only jumped off the line when the gun went off instead of crawl. but thats just my opinion...I can't wait to see him this summer! Its gonna be a real experience for him and great for the good old U.S. of A!
I personally LOVE seeing the POSITIVE, OPTIMISTIC feedback on Alan's young running career.
If any of you had read Lance Armstrong's biography, you'll know that Lance's first Pro race ended with him finishing DEAD LAST. He coulda quit right then and there. But Lance and his coach learned from the race and obviously the rest is history.
Alan has a bright future and I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM THIS SUMMER!
we have already seen the best of webb...another one hit wonder

Not talking to reporters is a lot better than publicly scrutinizing a 19-20 year old the way Warhurst did. Webb showed possible bad judgement, while Warhurst showed disregard for someone.
If Webb shows the same lack of compassion towards anyone (not talking to media doesn't qualify), then I WILL say something.

Publicly scrutinizing...warhurst is asked who he thinks will win, his athlete or Webb, and he naturally says his athlete. That is not publicly scrutinzing Webb.
Not talking to the media certainly does count. What's even worse is Raczko not making Webb go back and talk with them. Dispite what you all might think, a professional athlete does have an obligation to the media. Webb showed himself to be immature, selfish, and disrespectful. Hopefully his management team and Nike tear him a new a****** for his actions after the race.
So Coach JJ,
If you had said that this was raced on an 11 lap track and Webb unsuccessfully tried to pass 4 consecutive times on those short straights it would be plausible. But, as you reported, if Webb actually surged 4 times, each time passing 3 people and then letting them all repass him on the turns, he deserved what he got.
It's not like Webb is a rookie to indoor track racing.
Also, using your analysis, I am claiming a 3.44 mile PR, since I know that if I had run the perfect race it coulda/woulda/shoulda resulted in at least a 10 second improvement.
