Take a look. I can almost swear these are Nike zoom victory 2s, a TRACK, not cross spike, but hey maybe I'm an idiot.

That is probably the best way to go if you running on a golf course and your calves can handle it.
I wear track spikes for most of my xc races.
Most collegiate athletes wear track spikes for cross. Dedicated cross spikes are clunky and slow, and if you're racing on grass there is no need for a big spike plate.
Hardly anyone wears cross spikes and they certainly didn't back in the day.
Carlos Lopes did win back to back WCC titles in clunkers though. I bought a pair of the same shoes he wore and they were horrible.
Only HS runners use XC spikes. I used track spikes in college only varied the length of the spike.
Yes king.hess, he is wearing track spikes as he should.
You call that a cross race?
Just look at that grass, you can almost play golf there.
Have you ever seen a real xc course?
Bekele used to wear his track spikes in cross. Why not? they are lighter than the XC versions.
I wore track spikes every college meet besides maybe 2 ... OG vents baby! spotted and whites . all day bruh. you kids will never kno
Most USA 'XC' courses are probably faster than road races. Pancake flat, bowling greens. Absolutely no reason at all to wear big clunky spikes. Track spikes are perfect.

Sure, but why do you guys run WCC on horse racing tracks so often?

NOOB ALERT!!!!!
Watch out youngster..... most people wear track spikes for XC. Only high school kids get those rubber soled heavy turds to lug around.

More importantly, who is that old man in the picture, is that Ed Whitlock? Wow, he looks tan.
(I laugh at all the Ches is soooooo old haters. He looks like a kid even now)
I know for an absolute fact that he is 25-26 years old.
I'm close with a number of the Kenyan runners who know him very well. He's always been forthcoming with this detail around them.
So yes, he's "old," by NCAA standards. But not really so much older than some BYU guys, or - heck - Lee Emanuel when he was running for New Mexico.

And who benefits from age cheating?
At younger ages (Junior) at the world track level, it is so blatantly obvious what the Africans are doing.
At least in soccer( football) the Europeans became so made at Nigeria Junior teams full of men that they age test now with wrist bone density testing.
Would never fly in politically correct America.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
