Boston is his unicorn which he is chasing. Good for him. Crazy that these hobby joggers are talking trash. Reminds me of some of my old talentless teammates talking trash.
Sure, focus on the trash talkers calling him out, rather than the fraud himself.

Did you miss the part where the guy has never BQ'd? This isn't any more of an achievement than finishing a regular marathon.
I think it's more of an achievement to pester your friends and family for three years in a row in order to raise $5k, than it is to BQ. It's not like he cheated his way in.

How do you know he never qualified? If you know his name you can check marathonguide.com and get every marathon time anyone has run since around 2000.
His name on his blog is Linzie Starr. A quick check has his marathon PR at a staggering 4:54:09. For the half marathon, it doesn't look like he's ever run under 2 hours.
Again, not to deride his times. There are plenty of people who run marathons just for fun and that's fine. But the point is that his arrogance is off the charts at best, and at worst he's being deliberately deceptive to build up a following / get endorsements / get sponsorships. For someone who CHASED down Boston by paying to get in instead of training, he sure does convey the complete opposite message in his dialog.
Who cares? Mr Triple Unicorn is running his own race. His goal was to 1) raise enough charity money to get a spot; and 2) finish a 26.2-mile jog. And he did it! Good for him. He picked his race and ran it.
He may have been on the Boston course for some of the same time as people whose race was trying to break 3:00:00, but he wasn't running the same race they were. Just as the sub-3 folks weren't running the same race as the handful of elites who were contending for the win, even if they crossed the same start and finish line as the elites.
Worry about your own race, and the people you are racing against in it. Let other people run their own races.

Yes, I missed that part.
Yep he's a tool.

Fraud is pretty strong language. But I agree! This dude is borderline a fraud, HE HAS RUN ON CHARITY AND THE MEDALS ARE MEANINGLESS. Sorry to spoil the party pretty boys but that is truth!

So the F*CK have you done to contribute to the race charity?
NOTHING
You're just a loser needs to put others down, but this douche raised money at least. You whine here like a petulant child. You are the disgusting one.
Wow look at that fire :) This has gotta be him! Do you ever run with Mike Rossi?

^ proud to be useless.
If you gave me the option tomorrow to run a 3hr marathon or raise $15k for charity, I'd choose the $15k. I'd be more proud of that than a 3hr marathon, which in the grand scheme of things isn't really all that impressive.
I think the people getting upset by this are the fringe Boston qualifiers, and are probably placing a bit too much importance on a BQ.

His instagram is fascinating. Let me get this straight. He posts about getting a 5k PR of 27:29:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BKOPcjKhawB/?taken-by=sharpendurance...a few weeks after a 5k in training, that he apparently ran faster for:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BIobeWvhJZv/?taken-by=sharpenduranceI don't see charity as the issue here. Lies? YEs. But why would he lie? Is he trolling to be elite? I don't get people like this.
Female perspective: Would bang
Lol. That's probably his appeal.
Is there any way to verify that he raised $15k for charity? I mean, if he publicly lies about a stupid 5k time, he probably lies about a of things.
There's tons of people out there like this. Just check out the #werunsocial hashtag on Instagram or Twitter.
Really don't care what they do. It's more comical than anything. It's just a circle jerk of faux inspiration and motivation. Most of these people are just huge narcissists that want to gain followers so they can be some sort of fringe brand "ambassador" and save 10% on a hydration pack or race entry and pretend they are a sponsored athlete.

As someone who has both run under 3 and raised money for charity while running Boston, believe me the fundraising is much tougher than the training. It's not easy raising 5k, let alone, 15k. That's why anyone who finishes Boston with a legit number deserves a medal, BQ or not. And some of these charity programs like Dana Farber have legit training programs with legit coaches and you'll find some people like me who BQ but still run for charity because it's a good way to use running to give back. So instead of bashing the charity runners why not use your running for some good.
But it feels so much better to whine about other people!

Poseur? Are your French?! Speak English
I love it how the first few responses criticized the spelling. They were obviously from the same person who didn’t know the difference between french and english!

Sure you got that sub 3, and sure that raising money is harder. That's why you have legions of charity runners only raising for Boston and nothing else, hmmmm. Because it's a lot easier than putting their heads down and working for it.
