Bumping because Pilcher is the Quote of the day.
Yeah, I read the article and was surprised nobody was posting about it.
Super impressive! Get out the thesaurus to describe what this guy has accomplished.
Dartmouth Alumni:
"Brian Pilcher demonstrated that he still has some of the granite of New Hampshire in his muscles when USA Track and Field named him 2013 Masters Athlete of the Year. Brian, who lives in Kentfield, California, has garnered numerous honors since returning to running in 2007."
Still manages to come across as an ass in his runners world interview, quotes like 'I ran subpar but got four records. I was laughing about it'
If you know him, you would know this is typical. Quite opposite of someone like Whitlock

He also said something like: "I could barely hold 7:00 at the end!" in a very humble brag sort of way.
(In reality, he ran the last 10k at an 8:21 clip)
So he's only been running for 9 years, and runs a 16:39 at 60?
Exactly - there are a few parts like that in the interview. Like I said, entirely ordinary coming from him

Well, if I age graded in the high 90's to 100, I'd allow myself to brag a little too. You girls are a little too sensitive.

Yeah, but fred, you'd run his times in training, wouldn't you?
PS We're still waiting for you to post your verifiable PR's, you must be eligible for heaps of age group records, aren't you?
Most of the age group records are soft. Happy to see these records fall.
Probably time to give age-grading a rest, no longer serving any useful purpose.
True but 2:42 is still impressive. In my prime I was 15m behind the wr. I am now 59, have run regularly, and doubt I could get within an hour of the age best.
And how many of these "soft" records are yours? Thought so, keyboard hard man..

You are not serving any useful purpose with your head up inside your rectum.
You like it there.
Did he run for Dartmouth? What were his high school times? I'm curious about his pedigree that justifies such fast times, or (cough) did he suddenly blow up in his 50s?

This article from 7 years ago answers your questions:
http://www.runnersworld.com/masters/age-group-ace-brian-pilcherHe ran a 9:33 2-mile and 4:2X mile as a high school junior. He then quit running because it interfered with surfing. He did not run again until his son went out for high school cross country ten years ago.

Moran, there's a huge drop off between 35 and 70.
Guys running 3 @ 5:23 at 60 are very, very, very uncommon.

Pilcher 1:16:54, Rees 1:11.
The only reason Pilcher is being hyped for 2 world bests is because Rees hasn't run them yet.
This is media bullshit.
it says he ran a half in 71:32, yet he can only run 16:17 for 5k and can't break 5 in the mile?
5:27s for a half marathon but only 5:15s for a 5k? I don't buy it
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
