His 10k pr is like 28:20-28 area, best shape of his life could be 28 and that's a 30 second drop almost, he is not in 27:10 shape.
I assume you're talking about 28:00 on an xc course comparable to Terra Haute, right? If so, I agree with you. Sub-28 on a rolling, grass xc course is rarified territory.
Anyway, if you guys check out the splits for the race, Ches basically ran a relaxed "tempo" pace for the first 5k, before turning on the jets for a fast last 3k (which was still sub-maximal I would think).
