How can this guy be runnng in the NCAA? He failed two drug tests this summer and is banned for two years by the IAAF. I thought there was a rule that if you competed against a banned athlete, you are then banned yourself?
myerscough sp? did it at nebraska. just goes to show that the us doesn\'t really care if u on the juice or not

Get your facts straight. Nebraska held out Meyerscough during his IAAF suspension.
The guy at Nebraska sat out for two years until his ban was over.
Hell, if he would not have been busted, he would be a pro right now. He is only using the NCAA system because of the international drug ban.
According to the IAAF Rule Book, Any athlete who competes against an Ineligible athlete may be banned as well if the event is IAAF Sanctioned. Does this means that if Mullings competes at the Penn Relays, all athletes who compete there as well can be banned form IAAF Events in the future Being that Penn is a USATF Sanctioned event(IAAF Family)? Why would any coach risk taking their athletes to this event if their European Season could be wasted? This looks to be the case under 1.(b)
It seems that there is a rule that also says if Mullings competes in an IAAF Sanctioned event while under suspension then his 2 year ban will recommence itself at the time of that competition. #3
Here are the rules. I figure Penn is a sanctioned event since these type of people are there. The IAAF President

Oh by the way! Penn is on the Miss State Schedule!!
RULE 22
Ineligibility for International and Domestic Competitions
1. The following persons shall not take part in competitions, whether held under these Rules or the domestic rules of a Member.
Any person:
(b) who has taken part in any athletic competition or event in which any of the competitors were, to his knowledge,
suspended from participation or ineligible to compete under the Rules, or which takes place in the Country or Territory of a suspended Member. This does not apply to any athletics
competition which is restricted to the Masters’ age groups (40)years and over for men and 35 years and over for women);
27 RULES
3. If an athlete competes while suspended or ineligible, the period of his ineligibility shall be deemed to recommence from the time he last competed as though no part of a period of suspension or ineligibility had been served.
The NCAA should step in and ban him. ( You know the S.E.C.is not going to ). Is this the kind of message the NCAA wants to send out to young athletes? Cant't you just see one of those cheesy NCAA comercials " I am banned all over the World because I cheated, but the NCAA is letting me compete anyway".
How can the coaches at Miss. State run this guy? They are jeopardising other clean athlete's careers so they can get what....in the top 10 at the NCAA meet? The AD and the coach is at Miss State should be ashamed.
Miss State should step in and do something. If the school had any class it would not allow this Guy to represent them at any event. A drug cheat in the their jersey is a sad statement to make to all of their current athletes and future recruits. This guy will not put Miss State on the map. In fact the A.D. and the coach should be on T.V. right now along side Conseco telling the world why he has this guy on the roster! It is a complete joke. I hope the meet directors understand the rules and dont invite Mullings to their events. If that doesn't work maybe the coaches will get together and object to allowing their athletes compete against a caught drug cheat.
they are not only letting him run, they are celebrating the fact that he is running (and applauding his character)...
read this:
http://www.mstateathletics.com/0,5604,1_34_0_67201,00.html
lots of flaws in the article, but my favorite is this quote by mullings:
"If I could have changed anything in my life, I would have tried out for the Olympics after I won the 200 at the Jamaican national championships" said Mullings.
HAHAHAHAHA yea he chose not to run in the Olympics,, guess they forgot to mention the Jamaican officials WOULDN'T LET HIM!
http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20040815/sports/sports1.html
"SPRINTER STEVE Mullings will not be at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
That is the final word from chef de mission of the Jamaican delegation here, Don Anderson, following the positive drug test returned by the former Vere Technical athlete."
I can't belive people are not making a bigger deal of this! Mississippi State , the S.E.C., Al Shmidt and Steve Dudley have no morals if they let Steve Mullings represent the school and the conference. He is a cheat and banned all over the WORLD. Not only that, by competing against other clean runerers, he is banning them too. How could anyone at Miss. State let this happen?
What a shame that Miss St has to resort to this type of behavior to come in the top 15 at SEC's. HA!!!!! Wait a minute..is there 15 schools in the SEC? HA!!!!!
1. None of you know the actual story, so back off.
2. If you think Mississippi State is not one of the better teams in the SEC, you are misinformed.
What do you consider one of the best SEC teams? What place were they in the SEC outdoor meet last year? And Oh yeah I'm sure we don't know the whole story.....He is a great guy, he didn't know what he was taking........please, the facts are that he is a drug cheat and banned for the next two years by the International Governing body of track and field, and that Mississipp State does back flips if they finish in the top 6 (there are 12 schools in th SEC, and Vandy does not have a men's team).
What else do we need to know........?
Ms State track is now just following suit with the rest of its sports. They have one of the dirtiest athletic programs in the country.
I remember being at the Juco Indoors last year when Barton went 1-3. Mullings was one of them. I walked down the stairs right by the finish area and saw these 3 possessed looking dudes bearing down on me. I couldn't put my finger on it but they looked absolutely frightening. When I later found out Mullings was juicin I was not surprised.
Actually, Mullings has never officially been banned by the IAAF. They have taken no action on his case. This usually means they jumped the gun on the "A" sample and the "B" didn't confirm the "A".
Don't be so fast to jump on people, unless you have all the facts.
Also, the NCAA is working on changing their rules to recognize bans by WADA and other international bodies.
Myerscough DID compete in NCAA events while under IAAF suspension.
