Jos Hermens passed Bekele his bottle at 40K this morning in the Berlin Marathon. Surprised no one is complaining about this like they did for Rupp at the Olympics.

Well, technically no, he wasn't handed the water bottles. Instead, his team opted to swoop in by helicopter and pick Bekele up. No biggie, usually the airlift was for only about a half mile or so. Inside the helicopter Bekele grabbed his own water bottle. So, no foul.
If you didn't see the race you didn't miss much. Bekele would drop back from Kipsang every now and then so that when his chopper crew came down you could just barely see some wind effects on the screen as the cameras were focusing on Kipsang.
Anyway, no foul. Better find something else to talk about.
I thought it ridiculous/gratuitous as well, physiologically senseless at 40k, but Hermens is always doing odd crap like that.
Bekele should pay Hermens and Canova to leave him alone.
Why would you take something at 40k, other than to alter a post race test.
It was Champagne to celebrate the win. Much like the last leg of a Tour when the victory is already sealed.

What test? That bottle was a Belgian Cocktail!

Classic
Was it at 40K or 20K? On the live thread, someone mentioned it at the time it happened at 20K.

Jos has always found the opportunity to inject himself into his athletes performances. He is the Puffy Combs/P Diddy of needing to still be recognized. He can't leave it for the athletes he represents as 90% of agents still try to make it about "them".
Before 40k he was barely hanging on, running too far back too get a draft which is stupid if you don't have to.
Three minutes later the drink takes effect and he starts sprinting, sees he needs a 54 second last 400 and seriously attempts it.
Not saying there's anything suspicious, but I'm not saying there's not either.
Anyone really, really interested, go to 56min20sec of the video, 20k mark and 1hr56min20sec, 40k mark and you will see Jos Hermens, grey hair, black T shirt, grey pants handing KB his drink. He is the only person not wearing a red top amongst all the red top wearing officials at the drinks tables.
Remember just a few months ago, Jos Hermens had a major party with Seb Coe in attendance for his Global Communication company's 30 year blow out. Ignored was the years of dopers from the East Germans in the 1990s to questions about his current athletes who are protected by the IAAF.
Your sport is dirty to the max. Accept it and get over it.

There is no end to the "ridiculous suspicions" of LR posters.
You don't know any rule, but want to speak, and this fact makes of you full stupid persons.
In all the Major Marathon, such as during the top Championships (Olympics and WCh), officials of the Team (or, in case of not institutional competitions, of the management) can give personally to the athletes their bottle, with the idea of avoiding problems during any refreshment. Also yesterday, for example, there was one refreshment (I don't remember when, I think at 25k) when almost Kenenisa had an impact with Wilson, since he saw his bottle on the table only last minute, and crossed the road suddenly, with big risk for himself and Wilson. So, nothing strange in this : maybe more strange that the most part of top runners don't have some official of their management doing the same, but of course not many responsible of managements can follow the races (because the organizers don't pay tickets and accommodation for more than 2-3 persons, apart the athlete, if the athlete himself is not the defending Champion, or Olympic Champion, or World Champion.
And, because Global Communication is the management with more top athletes in the World at the moment (Kipchoge winning London and Olympics, Kenenisa who.... is Kenenisa, Abel Kirui twice WChampion and silver Olympic medal, Geoffrey Kamworor World Champion of Cross Country and Half Marathon, plus Florence Kiplagat WR holder of 15k, 20k and HM), you can see, also in the future, many times Jos on the ground with his athletes, since he has the PASSION for following, and not the will to go there because wants to appear in TV.
About the refreshment, I want to explain that normally everybody uses maltodextrines in different concentration, depending on the km. This is something used by triathletes and cyclists too, and can represent a new source of energy about 10 minutes after your drink.
So, there is no reason to have a drink at 40 km, for having new energy, but Kenenisa used water only, because the psychological effect of feeling more hydrated can help the athlete to find new energies in his mind, and consequentely in his body.
If you have to describe someone the crazyness of letsrun, showing this thread should be an good option. There were water stations at 20k and at 40k and it's not unusual that someone related to the athlete handles the bottle.
But a bunch of letsrun-Sherlocks with locked brains doesn't need an issue to make a story out of it.
Canova, please do not waste your time responding to these LRC idiots.
The rules allow an athlete to have one of their support team members (coach, manager, etc) give out refreshments along the course as long as it is done at an official refreshment station.
No rule violation here.

Last time he came on and defended an athlete in such a vigourous manner, a few weeks later he developed 'weak mind disease' and he and his non-cheating haematologist were busted.
I wouldn't pay much attention to his pleas.
