Why don't runner like Paul Tergat or Haile G. post vlogs? Exactly. Sage is ego driven. He sucks at running too.

Sage knows what he is. He stopped doing traditional marathons because he was never going to be a star. It is much easier to make a name for himself doing what he is doing. He probably topped out at the 2:16 and 64 min half that he ran with Hansons.
Sage knows there's no money for him in competitive races.
He's very smart piling up videos.

You do realize that Rob Krar and Zach Miller were in that "weak" field at North Face 50 that Sage won, don't you? That is always one of the strongest ultra fields because it is $10,000 to win.
He's got a 98% rating on UltraSign up over 24 different races, and it appears he also won the Black Canyon 100k in a course record this year fairly close to his 2:20 at the Houston marathon.
If this shows us anything it's that road marathon fitness helps in ultras up to about 100km. At 100 milers he has been inconsistent.
Black Canyon 100k? Is that even a real race? A b-class 18 year old kid held the CR and the previous year's winner (in the only other running) was 2 hours slower than the 18 year's time. If setting a course record in that kind of race is the thing he's done this year worth mentioning aside from running a huge amount slower than he did at age 20, my point is proven. Sage's TNF 2014 wasn't a bad performance - I'll grant you that $10k is a good payday - but it's still not at the same calibre as several of his first few trail races and the vast majority of the top guys that showed up that year weren't anywhere near peak form.
Sage talks a lot about training, but there is no proof that any of his strategies have helped him improve even slightly since he started ultrarunning. Considering that we could, at most, pick 2 races since 2013 that would come close to being in the ballpark of several of his very first trail races, it's safe to say that he's gotten worse and is not as informed with training as he wants people to think he is.
In any case, I really don't think I've ever seen anyone else on the professional running scene that's as big of a sellout as Sage. He will incessantly pump anything that pays him to do so, and it's, quite frankly, gross. 177 guys qualified for OT marathon trials this time around and Sage wasn't one of them despite professionally training full time, putting in numerous attempts, and putting out even more sponsor plugs. Instead of continuing to make threads about a guy who's doing little at this point other than continuing to make excuses for underperforming, let's give the attention he hasn't rightfully earned since 2008 -- back when he had an upside in the sport -- to some of the many superior runners that actually had the heart and training intelligence hit a qualifier, but rarely get mentioned here.
THIS, very well said.
He could have accomplished much more if he still had a good coach.

OK?

This type of logic is so prevalent in today's world, and it kills me. People have such collectively low self esteem that any type of first-person content is seen as "ego driven".
Look, the day Sage makes a rap video about his running, I'm 100% out. But I don't see his current content as anything other than running talk and his workouts/races. I like watching. Other people like watching too. It's OK to put yourself out there - it doesn't make you a bad person.

It's unfair towards Sage to be compared to a top runner.

Bang on, 100% correct.
Bottom line, Canaday serves the running community well. His YT channel is a reliable source for beginning/rec runners particularly. No harm in that. If he can carve out a living in the process, great.
Can't fault Canaday if the (more accomplished) pros don't supply as much video content or maintain a similar social media presence. That's gotta be exhausting in its own right.
Carved out a living? You can't be serious.
How's his retirement plan?
Same as Anton Krupicka. What do they really do besides run around on trails? They expect people to glorify them and people do. If you challenge the legitimacy of what they do everyone gets butt hurt about it. Why are runners like Sage or Anton K. untouchable? It's good to question them. They might be faster than Scott Jurek but at least he has won legit races around the world. Regardless of competition. People like Jurek and Matt Carpenter have actually competed.
Anton won Leadville 100 twice and has placed high in a number of other ultras despite a string of injuries over 10 years. I don't know the history of the the other races so I don't know if the fields have been soft historically, but to say he and Sage are the same class of ultra runner is plain ignorant.

Anton achieved much more than Sage in ultrarunning, despite less talent & speed.
Being a fast marathoner doesn't always translate to being a good ultrarunner.
unlike some of those mountain runner guys who do obscure races Sage isn't one to shy away from top competition.Just last year he did the USATF National Marathon Champs (LA Marathon) , ran USA cross country (12km) Nationals, and then got 16th at the Boston Marathon. For ultras he lines up for the biggest, most competitive races: Comrades, UTMB, TNF50. It doesn't always work out well for him, but he puts himself out there.

hoka gear is SO LAME. the shoes, are...at best, ugly.

It's great scenery in the videos and he's got great Hoka gear. Plus his GF/wife is hot. And the ultra crowd loves to watch them. So he's doing well
THIS is spot on.
The difference between Sage and Anton is that Sage still runs however.
Does Anton still have a single course record in his career?
The one time the two raced each other head to head Sage won, although for the record Anton did beat Max King.

LOL, didn't know it was a fashion contest. Only you hobby sloggers buy your shoes based on how they look! Most all the best, serious long distance guys that I train with wear Hoka. They've got a killer team. I should plunk down some $$ now in their stock (NYSE - Deck), bet it does well over at least the next 5 years.
