For someone too new to these boards, could someone post a link to the pirate/cat/gun girl/Brandon Moen thread(s). I looked but couldn't find anything.

There are more d-bags per capita in Gyms than just about any other micro section of society. The OP is evidence of such.
Gyms suck for competitive athletes. They have too many rules and primarily cater to sub-hobby joggers. Ain't no rules and fewer noobs while out running on the streets.

I go to a gym where most of the people lift and get personal training. Not much treadmilling going on so I never have to worry about time limits. I've done a 3 hour run and multiple 2 hour plus runs. The first 11 weeks of this year I avg 77 mpw all on the treadmill.
Mountain
Ultra
Trail
Treadmill
And
Road.
Most busy gyms have similar policies. They're usually posted right in front of the treadmills. You don't like it, don't use them. Genius.
It probably was a Kenyan gym. You weren't past the 24 mile mark after 2 hours, so you got kicked off... business as usual :P Next time try and race a marathon on a track. When you race smart you might even be lapped but finish strong and win that thing ;-)
Next time run your 30min with spikes, you won't break their policy.
This sounds like pretty much the stupidest undertaking in my opinion.

I believe it was removed eventually out of respect for the young man...it got so bad (and funny).

They were removed years ago. I tried to go find the pictures on that Chris Faltiesik (sp?) website but Google says the site may be compromised with malware. It appears to be there, but it is probably not worth the risk.
I wonder if anyone ever looked into whether that photographer was acting inappropriately with the kids. Some of the pictures were really out there. Could have just been an odd super-northern Minnesota thing.

Lame overused kneejerk comment re treadmills.
Treadmills serve a great purpose, for real running. Get over it.
Buy a second-hand treadmill so you can run all marathons you want
If a gym mill has a time limit that cuts off the mill, most gyms don't change the preset factory code--which you can easily find and override the time limit.
