I agree that asking whether he spoke with his teammates or to his wife/children about this wasn't well considered.

But overall, I thought the interview was supportive and done well. Appreciate LRC posting it. Hopefully LRC put a link to it in the front page.

Classic letsrun haters. So quick to condemn everyone and everything and to make judgements about runners when completely ignorant of any background. Now people are posting about "NBC is at fault for not covering this!" as if letsrun posters were supportive and knowledgeable of this protest all along.

The lesson should be that maybe when you viciously judge and condemn runners you should see if maybe you just don't understand what's going on and maybe wait to learn something, but of course the posters here will continue to be ignorant and immediately jump to judgement.

An ethnic group that makes up just over 5% of the countries population runs the country. The Oromo and in a smaller scale Amhara's are protesting.

Also, they seemed to be egging this brave man to make a statement at the medal ceremony where there'll be "a bigger audience". It's all fine entertainment for them since they don't have a wife and two kids stuck in Addis at the mercy of the regime.

He also mentioned seeking asylum in Brazil or Kenya but they seemed keen to suggest America for him. Sorry, but this is not journalism.

A supportive interviewer would have provided him a platform to explain why he did what he did. If the Ethiopian police had interviewed him, they would have asked him the identical questions about who else knew in advance of what he was going to do.

Mr. Burke, send me your address. I will personally purchase you a copy of Taylor Branch's magnificent history of the Civil Rights movement. I don't know when you were born, but I lived through that era and let me tell you, the work of that time ain't over. You need to do some reading before you pontificate on the state of and the history of civil rights.

Anyone know when the medal ceremony will be? I don't usually watch these, but I'm interested to see the reaction. Hope it's a positive one.
