Oh, and I thought he was paying homage to all his homies from the other side of the railroad tracks back on the mean streets of Addis.

Ha ha ha ha!
The OP is right on with this. Well done, Lelisa, for having the courage to stand up for what is right.
Wonder if he will seek asylum? Brazil could use a decent marathoner.
Best not to travel back home, I think.
Mwache alionje joto la jiwe. Kwani alitumwa kuitukana nchi yake?
He will be in deep do-do with government. No wonder he looked pissed after finish. He just took a very courageous and dangerous risk. Chatting amiably with other finishers was probably not among his priorities after marathon. I would not be surprised if he seeks asylum.

I wish Rupp would of kicked him in the groin as they crossed the finish line. The arrogant prick decided to not shake his hands. I found it insanely cocky.
How do you know they didn't congratulate each other? Were you at the race? The feed I was watching didn't have a camera on one of the two the entire time they were in the finish area.

Je, unaweza tafadhali kutuma kwa Kiingereza. Nimechoka kutafsiri ujumbe wako.
You know a dope when you see a dope
I believe Lelisa broke Olympic rule 50.

He walked straight past him, and did not even acknowledge Rupp as he finished at the line.

Kiingereza sikijui. Samahani mtani.
When it smells like dope, it must be dope! He didn't want nothing to do with it!

If you just did something that will possibly get him jailed. He refused to pick up the flag and took his shirt off.
200 people have been shot to death in the last 2 weeks.
He's got a lot on his mind
Lilesa gave an X at the finish and has now spoken about it. It may be the most poignant moment of the games.
He said he is supporting his people in Ethiopia. His relatives are in prison. There is no freedom. He said he could be killed when he goes back to Ethiopia or detained but he spoke with his family beforehand.
He may not go back.
It was incredibly touching and hopefully this was recorded on video.
Appreciate you mentioning this. FYI:
This is a showing display of courage
If true, this is a great story that LetsRun should follow up on with a detailed interview using a translator.
