Could he go under 1:40? Discus.
Could he go under 1:40? Discus.
No, he is a sprinter
Somebody who runs 43 flat with his build should be able to run at least 1:45 but 1:45 doesn't get you a medal.
People don't understand how different the 800 is to the 400. A fast 400 doesn't mean a fast 800, the physiology is so different. Could Wayde run 1:40? No. He wouldn't even come close. He is a 200/400 runner, and will never be able to be an 800 runner.
Only on letsrun: a 43.03 400m guy become a 1:39 800m runner. You do realize he's broken 10 in the 100m right? Way too much fast twitch for the 8.
No.
Yes. He just ran 43.03. Going through 400 in 47 would be a jog, he could easily bang out 47-49 for a 1:36 WR
Of course he could run 1:40.
Then a 2:15 km split will be a breeze in the 1500m and maybe he can run 3:22.
From there a 7:15 3000m is possible.
After that a 7:30 is achievable for a 3km split during a 12:29 in 5000m breaking the elusive 60 second lap average in the 5000m.
Then we can shift to the 10000m and try to run sub 26.
cant wait for the 2028 olympics, where Van Niekerk will take on Galen and Ayana in the mixed 100mile ultra!
He should do the 200m an dominate everybody.

No you jackass. Why reprise the Wariner debate?
WVN could actually split 44/46 for a 1:30.
Why would someone who has gone 43 flat, sub 20 and sub 10 want to move up? He should be moving down if anything to go after the 200 record. He is a sprinter.
I can't wait to see his next 200, he's gotta be better than his current 19.94 pr. Given a 9.98 100 and now the 43.03, what do people think he can run the 200 in?
I wonderr what he could run, time wise, in the most useless event on the planet, the 10K

i do not think he can get the 200 WR, but I do think if he shifted his focus he can go sub 19.50, which would be good for 4th all time. If he gets the right circumstances he can give Johnson and his 19.32 a scare.
Have him do a 600m time trial then we'll see if he can possibly run an 800m. Many 400m runners with the proper training can become successful half milers.

Ok, I'll have him do that. Also, I'll have him lend me $100k.

WHY NOT JUST DO AN 800 METER TIME TRIAL?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
