In HS, my team would always take ice baths the day before meets to flush out any remaining lactic acid. Another coach suggested that we shouldn't have lactic acid in our legs the night before the race and that they're mainly useful after long runs (the end of our week of training) to flush out the lactic acid in order to run the next training week well.
I tend to think that ice baths before a race do throw my legs out of the rhythm they would be in from running every day. But I'm not sure what the popular opinion would be on ice baths in general or when to take them. Any opinions on this?
