Wow! Wonder if they hire a local coach or bring in an outsider. Bay Area is an expensive place, Might be tough for an outsider to move in if the $$$ isn't competitive.
This is actually really cool that it's finally coming back. I grew up there and there was always talk of the legendary Speed City teams at SJS in the 60s with Tommy Smith and Lee Evans.
Thank you Gene Bleymaier and Jeff Petersmeyer!

I remember when everyone, including Tom and Dick Smothers, wanted to go to SJ and train under Bud Winter.
This is cool.. I was 12 years old when my Dad took me and my three brothers down to the old,old track on 7th street in I believe May of 1967 to see the race between Lee Evans and Tommie Smiith. Billed as a 400/440 world record attempt. There must have been 5,000 people on top of cars and in the trees. There was only spectator stands for a couple hundred at best. I was near the finish line when Smith cruised through wearing his shades. The crowd erupted when it was announced he broke both records.
Now if they could just do something about the gang violence that surrounds the campus. 2 kiiled in shootout across from campus last week.
San Jose messed up when they let Coach Davis go. He was the true keeper of the Legacy.

What ever became of his wrongful termination/age discrimination lawsuit against SJSU?

School records are incredible.

Jimmy Omegebi 9.4 Nigeria
Ray Norton 9.3WR
Bobby Poynter 9.4
Dennis Johnson 9.3WR
Willie Williams 9.4
Wayne Herman 9.4

Kirk Clayton 9.3
John Carlos 9.1WR
Ronnie Ray Smith 9.9WR
Vince Breddell 9.4
Bob Griffen 9.4
Ron Whitaker 10.0ht
Ken Thomas 10.0ht
Not sure Bill Gaines ever ran at SJS he did run on that SCVYV team.
Then there cwas San Jose City with Olympians Millard Hampton and Aro Boldon coming from that JC.
Can't talk San Jose however without mentioning those great Dedy Cooper vs Spider Gaines 110hh clashs. They dead heated how many times?
SJS having a WR holder in...
60..John Carlos
100yd...Dennis Johnson, Ray Norton, John Carlos
100m...Ray Norton, Ronnie Ray Smith
200 straight...Tommie Smith
200 curve...Ray Norton, Tommie Smith
400m...Tommie Smith/Lee Evans
What other school compares to that?
Natural selection is a powerful driver of athletic performance.

Might as well carve those into stone. Those records are NEVER getting broken.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
