Really was an impressive performance. To put so much distance on Kipchirir in the last 150, particularly after a somewhat fast second 5k, and beating fourth place by 50 seconds...he's fit. He's going to get a medal.
Kip put on that second and final burst with about 250-280 meters to go and then packed it in and basically jogged when Rupp went past him.
I think Kip could have made it more of a race ha he not gone with that second burst.
But maybe not.
Rupp has been a dope addict for more than half his life.

I have no evidence one way or the other.
In fact, I don't even have an opinion or guess on that.

Rupp was impressive. And I don't want to divert talk away from why that is.
However, just as interesting is how Rupp's American competition in the 10K has degraded over the years. I mean if the 2009 version of Ritz was in this race, how do you think he would have done? I think he would have finished 2nd. Rupp would have beaten him handily in the final lap but he would not have "toyed" with Ritz. Solinsky never really was a 10000M runner but needless to say he would have stayed with Rupp in his 2011 form.
Yeah good analysis, and if I had a time machine, I'd go back to 1992 and take state.

You must be joking.
5000: 12:58 is barely a world class PR, not even elite. Has never won a major international race.
10,000: 26:44 PR in an era where the marathon equivalent time is no longer even special. That is like 2:07 level. There are literally dozens of runners you can't name with that ability. Slowest silver in the event since 1992, since the 10,000 field is so watered down it shouldn't even be in the games.
Marathon: 2:11. Beat a 40 year-old man and the rest of America, which is all scrubs who can't even get under 2:10.
Best in the world? Not even in the conversation. Kamworor and Kipchoge are as to Rupp as Rupp is to...um...Jenkins.
Really? He won an OT marathon, and a first marathon, in awful conditions while jogging the last 3-4 miles, and his PRs at the other distances only demosntrate his great range. His 27:55 yesterday in awful conditions--82 and bright sun--is good for sub-27:00 in good conditions...all while training for a marathon, not training for 5k/10k racing. Seven runners DNFed yesterday--in a 10k, not a marathon, and among them were both Mead and Jenkins.
And one of the announcers had the nerve to mention that the humidity was "only 28%" Clueless.

Guys you have never heard of it have run faster. The owner of PRs 12:58/26:44/2:11 is not in the conversation for best distance runner in the world. Period.
People start talking about Rupp like this every time he trounces soft American competition. Did the same with Hall.
How many international wins did either ever get? Zero. And Rupp won't be adding to that count.

Great contribution.
Blah, blah, blah. Who cares about the nobodies who DNFed?
The fact that a bunch of U.S. scrubs dropped out means nothing. They are 28:xx guys. Irrelevant to a conversation about "best in the world." Off of 28:00 pace, Rupp briefly hit a speed that might have been competitive if held for the last 400m of a 27:0x race in similar conditions. He did what he had to do.
But he has NEVER done anything to put himself in a conversation about the "probably the best distance runner in the world right now."
Seriously, you must be joking. Rupp himself would laugh at that assertion.

One thing we got to see last night in the 10,000 was the lineup of runners, the long shaggy haired dude and the rest. Did anyone else notice how heavy some of the runners were?
It's amazing to me that runners that heavy could qualify. Then look at Rupp. Say he's on the juice. Say whatever. The three guys that qualified were LEAN.
In my own humble opinion, that's the difference in almost everyone in that field.
We'll see how the games go, but Rupp is cut in places he wasn't before. I would guess he's five to seven pounds lighter. I wouldn't bet against him.
I was thinking the same thing and someone else last night noticed too, he looked leaner or skinnier than I've ever seen him.

I noticed it, too. A lean Rupp, indeed. I also noticed one or two guys that looked sort of fat for distance runners. What are they thinking? Distance running is mostly about being rail thin. I saw a pretty heavy beard in there, too. What was he thinking? That thing has to be hot and itchy. I guess looks and "style" are everything these days.

Absolutely destroyed the field, Rupp doesn't feel heat. So much carnage!
He eats andro gel packets for lunch and kinesio tape for dinner. Nice run but he kinda looked like a wobbly robot out there.
What the heck Lagat was in a spot with less then 7 minutes left and just quit ?

I think it's more that Kipchirchir faded really badly in the last 200m cause I'm pretty sure Rupp only ran like 30 for the last 200.
Of course no one mentions Farah in the conversation as greatest distance runner in the world right now.
I mean, that was obviously an outlandish statement about Rupp but you can see by the vicious backlash that immediately starts naming Kenyan flavour of the month and ignore the guy who had won the last seven global championships in 5k/10k that people truly love to hate Rupp and the NOP.
How often has 12:58 been run in the past five years?
How often has 26:44 been beaten in the past ten years?
How many times has Farah run faster than either?

That's where distance running in this country has gone unfortunately, one reason Rupp has no competition.

For all but 4 or 5 of those runners, making the trials race was their life achievement. They had already finished by making the start line. Why finish in that heat and risk harm?
Oh yeah, how about Chris Derrick or even Ryan Hill have been dope addict for more than half their lives??
