Ummm.....ever hear of Jordan Hasay?
Ummm.....ever hear of Jordan Hasay?
Maybe he's leg speed limited in the 800, so that's the only tactic he can use in a fast race. Regarding the 1500, seems to be a confidence/fitness issue he's now figured out. Hopefully that will enable him to run closer to mid-pack when the kicking starts.
In Andrews race, Jock went out in 49. and the field went with him.
Andrews was in the back but running a reasonable and still fast pace.
He did a great job of measuring his effort.
In Brazier's race, they went out in 50., which was more reasonable.
And Brazier powered home in a good overall well measured race himself.
He ran more than a second faster than Andrews overall.
Andrews race was more exciting because so many people went out too fast.
But he is a great competitor and has a great feel for the finish line.

... but Robby, for the love of God, you can't make up 15m in the final 200 when you're racing the best in the world! It drives me crazy watching him spot the field so much distance every single time.
He's tried to run with the leaders and it hasn't worked well for him. You can find some races where he ran like Centro and he just didn't have it in the end. Maybe that would be different with his improved fitness.
Robby's 800 win, bla bla bla... ran a dumb race and pulled it out on talent.
Let's see what he's got this year for the 1500. I'd rather talk about what Robby can do now, than relive the same old race. Like, can Robby make the team? Can Robby make the Oly final? Will he change his ill-advised haircut? I SURE HOPE SO!
Should we keep talking about Wheating's on fast 1500 forever too? Sure it was great, but do something fresh!

All this hype over Brazier running 1:43 but do people not remember when Robby Andrews (as a sophomore I believe) ran 1:44 in not so favorable nasty rainy conditions?? He passed SEVEN people in the last 200.. and on the curve! at one point almost in lane 3! In my opinion this is still the most mind blowing 800m races I've seen.... He skipped indoor and had slight injuries much like both Brazier and McBride...
All respect to Brazier.. but this one is still not topped for me
Mad respect for Robbie and a huge win, but 1:44.7 is Fast. 1:43.5 is next level
According to the official clock/video, Andrews closed in 26.44 after going out in 51.14.

Just re-watched that race (thanks for the link). That Robby Andrew's win in 2011 is at least the equal of the 1:43.55 Brazier win. Both runners have amazing gifts. Hope to see Robby kick some a$$ at the trials and at Rio.
I'm as big of fan of Robby the athlete as anyone but how is a 1:44 .71 the same as a 1:43.55? Is a 1:50 guy the same as a 1:49.7 guy? of course not. Maybe it's more obvious on the women's side. Is a 2:00 woman the same as a 1:58.7 one?
Let's look at their splits on top of each other.
Andrews:
25.52 51.14 [25.63] 1:18.27 [27.13] 1:44.71 [26.44]
Brazier:
24.13 50.48 [26.36] 1:16.46 [25.98] 1:43.55 [27.10]
There is a reason why Anderws now runs the 1500. He's not fast enough for the upper echelons of the 800.

Dude where have you been? He ditched the man bun a while ago. Given that Centro didn't look good this weekend at Portland (granted he's great at being fit at the right times), I wouldn't be surprised if Robby won the trials. My picks for the team now are Robby, Centro and Blankenship. Manzano hasn't done anything notable this season and I don't even know if he's got a trials qualifier.

Great interview too! Very articulate.
That interview was awesome... "sweat and tears man, sweat and tears", "they came here to run, but so did I", etc etc ... lol, I love it.
going to have to say it, robby andrews is the ugly unwanted baby or frodo baggins and Shia LaBeouf, like what the hell ethnicity is he? im guessing italian/jew/hobbit
Andrews' win ... get it right.
"NJ guido man bun"

What the hell is that? Enlighten me please?
I think he's a cutie so haha that's your opinion
Surprising that that is still his PR.
Andrews has always been just about the most exciting runner for me. Yes, his tactics might leave you screaming, but he is a competitor (which is slightly at odds with his tactics, but I hope you follow) and his kick has a carefree feel of reckless abandon to it. When I see him at top gear the last 150 or so it just looks to me like a kid racing his friends at the schoolyard.
The dude is awesome.

Thanks for clearing that up, rojo. I didn't understand before but now I get it.
Rojo - I agree that a 1:43.5 is a few meters better than the 1:44.7. However, I think the performances were still about equal - given the conditions, and Robby's come-from-behind performance was of course more exciting to watch. (Not taking anything away from Brazier either - as I thought he ran an excellent race and he had me on the edge of my seat as well!)
post race interview is prime

Are people forgetting about Kyle merber who set the collegiate 1500m record?
Or Leo manzano who won NCAA at 1500 his freshman year!
Or German Fernandez who also won NCAA his freshman year in 1500m
Should I start
