I'd like to see Leer make an olympic team given how close he's been to making olympic and world championship teams in the past. His recent form, though, indicates it's a long shot.
Since he's never made a team, I'd say he's a long shot no matter what his form.
If Centro is healthy, you have to think he and Blankenship are locks to make the team. That leaves one slot for Leer and everyone else. Since "everyone else" includes pretty good guys, it doesn't look good for Leer.
Even without Centro, it doesn't look good for Leer. He's still 2 seconds over the Olympic standard.

That did not end well. JMac missed the standard and one of the pacers tweaked his Achilles and pulled up lame at the Trials.
I didn't remember this. Who was the pacer?
JMac is always one of those guys who seems like he's right there, then it never happens.

Don't forget about R Andrews. If you think BB is a lock, then Andrews is too.

What's the deal with em?
Leer - Training in Michigan or Oregon, last I saw on his social media. I've heard he's working out pretty well.
McNamara - He's doing fine. He ran 3:38 pretty recently and won the Nike Festival of Miles with a 3:56.
Ciaran - 3:53 1500 at Oxy, no idea how his training is going.
Mac Fleet - Having a rough time this season. Ran 3:40 at Oxy. I think his most recent result was a 4:08 mile.
Chad Noelle - Ran 3:39 at Oxy
Ford Palmer - 3:41 at Oxy. Not sure about his other race results. But his Sweat account workouts look pretty good. He did 2x800, 2x400 in faster than 1:57, 1:54 (wouldn't disclose the actual times for some reason)
Saw Chad Noelle at the drake relays in the Pro Field house and he was wearing OSU gear. Must either not have a sponsor. Was walking with Ryan Martin and someone else.

Russell Brown.
Vin put together a meet at Lane Community College in Eugene on June 16, two weeks before the trials. It was called the "Track Town Tune Up." There were only a handful of races, all for locals who needed to meet the standard. The racers included Acosta, Dunbar, Heath, and JMac. Pacers for the 1500 were Wheating, David Winn and Brown.
I don't think any of the racers met their standards.
Results:

Ok, so if Centro's healthy, that's three locks, and no room for Leer or anyone else.
Leer is recovering from a hernia if I remember correctly. He's healthy now and reports are that he's quickly gaining fitness.
Should be a toss up whether or not he's ready for the trials. He's just missed on both of the standard attempts by his training group.
Some guys are keeping track of who's where in the chase for the Olympic standards:

Yep. And after looking at his record, it's been a while since he's even been "right there."

I wouldn't say he'd "doing fine." In the last three years, JMac hasn't run under 3:37. So to make the team, he has to run two seconds faster than he has run this season, and a second faster than he has run in three years.
Calling that "doing fine" reminds me of Samuel Johnson's quip about second marriages: The triumph of hope over experience.
i think Leer had both of his abductor muscle surgically reattached last year. something crazy like that.big injuryunrelatedly, i think he's dating/married to aisha prought...who's a total babe. so that's cool

I still wonder how these guys are pro with the addition of German. There are college and even high schoolers that are faster and why do these guy get an opportunity. Everyone keeps talking about Boris and how he came from nothing. There are probably hundreds of other Boris' that could have done the same, because they appreciate it more, if given a chance. This sport is ridiculous in this country.
Robby Andrews ran 3:38 1500 and 3:53 mile indoors THIS YEAR. That seems better than a lot of the has-beens. He, centro, and caveman are definitely the favorites by a long shot.

Good story. I assume Brown has retired since 2013? I haven't heard any results for him this year.
According the internet, 8 Americans have the Olympic standard:
Matthew Centrowitz 3:30.40
Evan Jager 3:32.97
Garrett Heath 3:34.13
Kyle Merber 3:34.54
Cory Leslie 3:35.36
Ben Blankenship 3:35.48
Robby Andrews 3:35.52
Leo Manzano 3:36.16
Unless Jager's running the 1500, that leaves 7 guys who are eligible to go to Rio.
The USATF has set the Trials standard at 3:38. So guys like See, Masters and McNamara could show up at the Trials and hope for a fast race. Leer has to hope he gets a fast(er) race just to make the Trials.
It is telling that Torrence, who has the Olympic standard, decided he'd rather take a sure thing in Peru than gamble on making the top 3 in the US. If he thinks he can't make it, how can any of these other guys?
