I am a male in High School, training for the 800m next track season and I am wondering how to incorporate both weight (or general strength) training and distance base training into my summer workouts. I need to build up my mileage since I can only do about 15-20 miles per week right now (because I am new to this sport), but I also need to gain lots of strength in my hamstrings since they have been prone to injury in other sports and are fairly weak.
Is it best to do both during the same day, or only do weights/strengthening plyometrics one day and on the alternate days build up my mileage?
For background info, I ran a 2:14 recently with just a few weeks of training. Any responses related to strength training and distance training would help, and hopefully this thread will help others in similar situations, thanks!
