That is really sliw for an 800.

Where is there a discussion of this, in a book or interview with well-known leading coach, that hard training prior to age 19 (but not overtraining) limits one's ultimate potential? Is this a real thing? What is the evidence?
And Webb peaked in HS? I don't think so.
maybe if you hammer in high school, you'll peak in college, rather than after college. plenty of guys hammer in college and peak in the several years afterward. There is no kind of argument that would diminish a feat like this. My high school back in the 1980s had a 4:18 guy, the next guy at 4:49, and the top five all-time at the school was something in the range of 4:17-4:22. This is a much better era but still incredible.
I'm saying that they will reach their natural limit sooner.Does that make sense? Maybe Mary Cain's limit is 1:59 and she achieved it in high school. We don't know. This is all gathered from surrounding evidence.

God dang. That's a scary team. How many returning runners?
Not quite as good, but:
The Woodlands had 5 guys rub sub 9:20 this track season.
9:11.34 Henderson, Matthew
9:11.86 Enochs, Nicholas
9:11.86 McClellan, Matthew
9:14.58 Golden, Daniel
9:19.89 Hunsdale, William
Also, 3 other guys:
4:15.80 Butero, Michael (ran 9:27 3200m during XC; did not race 3200m outdoors track)
4:17.79 Hawley, Nick (ran 9:24 3200m during XC; did not race 3200m outdoors track)
4:19.22 Wells, Noah (ran 9:13 3200m during XC and won the Woodlands time trial race, did not race 3200m outdoors track)
Some of these guys could run faster too--- which is the sad part.
Unfortunately, only 3 athletes per team per event in track at district. Not just that, but when you only take like 3 qualifiers per event to regionals, and then only 2 from regionals, you end up diluting the talent pool if one region is more stacked than the others (which is always the case). Sub 9:20 didn't make it out of every district meet to regionals... A 9:14 didn't make State... and so forth.
Most kids don't run in college. Many of those college athletes don't make it 4 years. Those that do, most do not run pro. Of those that do most will never make the Olympics.
So 99% never conpetively race after HS. Why not maximize high school?
Bingo. This is the correct answer. Be great when you can.

I don't have a problem with hammering in high school - the lesson is a good one. Work hard, try to be the best.
but I'd suspect none of these kids will be faster in college.
I'm not criticizing harshly...it's just an interesting question. Try to get all you can out of 18 year old boys or try to put them on a lifeline path.
Like yo dawg this sounds really smart and all, but is there any truth to this? Kenyan and Ethiopians not much older than this are kicking our butts in marathon majors, and you're worried about the effects of the training that gets guys to a mediocre (by comparison) mile time?
Strike while the iron is hot. These kids may quit running for 1000 reasons besides "I don't like running because coaches train me too hard".
Having a problem with Los.Angeles ? Both those high schools are far from Los Angeles proper....in Riverside County.

Bravo to both VM and GO.
I agree. Both squads rocked this meet. Vista went, 1,2 in the 100, 1,2,3 in the 200, Won the 4x1and 4x4. All with fantastic times. Obviously Norman leads the way but the other guys are all great talents.
Looking ahead both teams strengths carry over to the state meet.
Results from the VM GO dual meet earlier in the spring. Have you ever seen dual meet results like this?

Micheal Norman ran 20.41 for 200m in that meet. That has to be the fastest 200m HS dual meet run ever.
Norman ran 20.23 at the CIF Masters meet Yesterday. His focus is the Olympic trials and not yesterday's, or the CA State, meets. Still, he pops a 20.23.
You're a douchebag and undoubtedly slow. GET a life!!! You have no idea what it's like to run with asthma you freak.

Top 3 JV guys (all GO) ran faster than the winning varsity time in the 1600. How would you like to be a 4:29 guy who's stuck running JV? That time would qualify for state - and place respectably at the state meet - in a lot of places.
The district does not have open enrollment. In fact, you MUST live within the school's boundaries in order to attend, due to overcrowded schools. No transfers unless you move within the school zone.

There were 44 runners in that JV race!!! Talk about a crowed lanes.
19 runners went sub 5, with 18 from Great Oak. 36 of the 44 JV guys were from Great Oak.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
