Crazy, you run a 4:11 and you're too slow for you HS 4xmile relay team.

Not to mentionit was fairly windy and many times were slower than usual today.
WTH...
Great EPOak or what??!??
Where does that rank them among the numerous local SoCal colleges and universities?
Why are they able to run 4 people at the state meet in one event? Most states allow 3 max.
This was at divisions. Like a regional semi-finals.
In CA if you make the auto qualifying time at your section championship you automatically advance.
Impressive fete. But the fanboy stuff is annoying.

Define "most"
If you have four good enough to be at state, then let them. The Saugus girls had 4 girls at state in the 32 finals in 2009.
We know L.A. dominates pro sports as well. F U C K L.A.
Not surprising for a school of that size.
Does anyone know what their training is like? Their success on the boys and girls side shows this isn't just from randomly getting a bunch of great talents.
I don't have a problem with hammering in high school - the lesson is a good one. Work hard, try to be the best.
but I'd suspect none of these kids will be faster in college.
I'm not criticizing harshly...it's just an interesting question. Try to get all you can out of 18 year old boys or try to put them on a lifeline path.

I think that's a loaded answer. Hammering in high school just makes you hit your physical peak sooner. Think of Alan Webb. A man who ostensibly could have peaked in high school. Hard training helps you reach the peak, but your career won't be as long due to getting banged up. I'm betting that 3 out of those 4 guys aren't even able to break 4 in college, because they're physically not able to.
With that being said, the long journey to the peak makes for an enjoyable career, and the hard training does leave the chance for conking out before you reach your potential.
I bet 3 out of 4 high school miler from any school don't break four in college.
It's very impressive what Great Oak has done. They have great coaches and their community stands behind them. It's taken them many years of hard work to get to where they are now, which is in the national spotlight.
I believe their school has about 3500 students. Vista Murrieta is in the same district and has about that many as well. If I understand it correctly, the district has open enrollment. So if you are a sprinter, your best bet is to go to Vista Murrieta. If you're a distance runner, go to Great Oak. Of course VM has some good distance runners and GO some good sprinters, but it's almost as if each school is drawing from a student population of about 7000 now that both programs have proven themselves to the point where incoming freshman and their parents know what they are getting into.
I don't say that to bring them down either. It's a testament to their consistency over the years and it's a good thing to help kids who are talented at something naturally to excel even moreso.
Bravo to both VM and GO.
What no "asthma attacks"?
Their head coach, Doug Soles, took a lot of the same principles that the former Arcadia High School coach Jim O'brien used to use on his athletes when they were a powerhouse dynasty.
What about guys that hammered hard in high school and did exceptionally well in college as well? Mac Fleet = NCAA champ. Ammar Moussa = 5th at NCAA XC
