Question for everyone to contemplate...
I'm a post-collegiate distance runner now training on my own with some guidance from a coach via email. Here's my problem...
I ran 800's all through college. Now I'm finding I want to move up to the 1500m. I stick with my training partners on the interval sessions, and run like a champ when we're doing any reps under 800m. Once a week we do a longer session (mile and 2 mile reps, 3-5 mile tempos, that sort of thing) and I get dropped like I'm standing still.
I'm currently running 45-50 miles per week, running every day and doubling easy usually 3 times per week (20 mins or so) and racing decently at distances of 1500m and below. Baiscally my question is this: what can I do to stay up with the guys on the longer sessions? My VO2max was recently tested at 64ml/kg/min.
I know I should increase my mileage to at least 70. Should I increase the length of my off day runs (currently 45-70 mins) and/or the length of my morning runs (20-35 mins)? Try to run the distance I do now faster? A combination of both?
thanks. Sorry for making this so long, I just wanted everyone to get a grasp of where I'm coming from.
