I accepted a job offer from one of engineering companies in Phoenix areas but don't know where to go out for a run.
Any info much appreciated.

call runners den (602) 277-4333
what part of town will you be in?
canals are great.. biltmore area has some good hills
great trails at either south mt or north mt parks
enjoy
I will be in Tempe area as of March! Thanks for the info.
If you're in Tempe, great places are Papago Park and its canals, Kiwanis Park and its canals, and South Mountain. All are reasonably close to Tempe. Stop by the store when you get in and we'll give you the lowdown. Or call 480.592.0900.
Carlos
Try South Mountain for trails...the largest City Park in the nation (basically Guadalupe/I-10 from the Tempe side). Also try Papago Park, just north of ASU. Canals are also nice but you'll get tired of them. Kiwanis Park (MIll/Baseline)is decent but it's only 250 acres.
I know those roads don't mean much to you now but if you're going to live in South Tempe, they will very soon.

I know for a fact that skinnbones knows every square foot of Kiwanis Park.
From ASU, you can also go north into Scottsdale along the greenbelt path (not all of it is "green," but it's still a good place to run), or run along Town Lake.
Got to agree, South Mountain Park is a great place to run and rather beautiful in its way. The canals are a more central place to run if you do not have the time to drive out to South Mountain, which is on the far side of the city. You can get to a canal in moments from most places in Phoenix and Paradise Valley.
I also look out for the snakes in your front yard, though.
Do not wear snakeskin Tiger trainers.
you're a retard.
I assume you'll have a car???
Lots of great places to run...
S Mtn Park...go forever on a variety of trails, plus a great road runs inside the park
Phoenix Mtn Preserve...Trail 100 as locals call it
McDowell Mtn Park...Pemberton is a 15 mile loop in the desert.
Canals...though boring, they provide a great packed dirt surface and go forever in a variety of areas
Kiwanis Park...now has a marked grass XC loop
If you care to do some track work, we meet in S Scottsdale on Tuesday nights. I can give you details...email me at
Enjoy the great winter weather!

Thanks guys for your wonderful replies. That was more than I expected - what a camaraderie!!
Hope to meet all of you either on the roads or races.
later,
I see you're hard at work today.

Are you going to ever call me/email me fool. I am finally healthy and running again. About 60-70/week at the momment. maybe in mid-high 15 shape, ugly at the momment but getting better. I was over for Midnight Madness but did not see you there.
I am looking at doing London 2006. Want to help me out?
I will be over there for the Valley of the Sun marathon. Gerry is putting together a relay team, so it is that or I am going to do the half.
Kevin
Hey Kevin, nice to hear you're healthy. Did you get the surgery on your foot?
I may see you at VOTS. Quest Club will likely have a team.
NewAZguy: if you're running in the Papago area and need somebody to run with, drop me a line.
alright!
looks like some serious relay competiton at Valley of the Sun! Bring it on!
Good luck this weekend David...bring your rain gear, but the wind at last check looks like it is coming from the right direction!
AZ rocks! I lived in Scottsdale for six years and had to return to the Midwest for work. I've been back 1 1/2 years and will be returning to Scottsdale in Sept. I can't wait. Lots of running - and hot girls too! The PGA tourney last week rocked - Bird's Nest baby!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks. At least it doesn't look like it will be as cold as last year. After PF Chang's & Grandma's last year, it will be nice to have a tailwind for a change...
DD,
Good to hear from you too. No surgery, just lots of stretching and 1/2 of last year off!
Anyway, hope to see when I am over there. What are you running this weekend?
Kevin,
It's great that you found a solution. I will be running the Mercedes Marathon in Birmingham, AL on Sunday. Just hoping it doesn't rain too hard... and that I win the Mercedes drawing...

Sure, I'll call you fool. You're a fool.
Seriously, this thread has become old home week.
I'm old, beaten down, crippled, and constantly tired from chasing a really cool... and really fast... 2.9 year old. Call me when you're in town; we'd love to see you. You're welcome to stay here if you wish (we still have the futon!).
