Where are you moving from?
i'm moving from boulder. need a change.
It is really hot and humid in the summer. From June until Sept. it is typically 95+ and humid. But, like living almost anywhere, you learn to adapt. Run early or run late to beat the heat. The rest of the year is beautiful. Today was about 60 and partly cloudy.
There is a great running community here. That is, for average runners and newbies there is a supportive running community and tons of races. If you're a super-star elite, then you might struggle to find a ton of training partners.
There are a ton of things to do here (outdoors, arts, etc.), a lot of great restaurants, and mostly nice people (assuming you live in the city of Austin and not one of the suburbs). Finally, though housing is high, the cost of living is reasonable.
Every month or so I seem to see someone inquiring about moving to Austin. So, you can also do a search for additional information
thank you for the info on the running and weather. i wasnt aware that housing was expensive. hopefully not as expensive as boulder!? i'll look into it. thanks again.
Depends on where you wanna live. If you wanna live downtown near the trails, a 600 sq feet apt will cost you about $1000 per/month.
If you wanna live 10-14 miles north in the burbs, it is approx $600 for 600sq feet.
Yeah, also keep in mind that Runtex is a good place to be, and of course, Town Lake.
Don't do it!!! Please go visit for a wk between May 15th and Oct 15th and you will see the light or rather see the fire. The cost of living could be zero, no they could pay me to live there and I would not go.
Austin is a total shit hole. If you like shit you'll love it there.
thanks for the info. one last question. is it a somewhat clean city? is there trash everywhere and looks scummy or is it relatively clean?
thanks
Yes, please don't come here. we have enough f***ing people like the asswads above moving in.
Clean city with TONS of FUN things to do. The summers are tough but not like Phoenix or Tuscon....running in the early morning or late evening is not bad at all. Great city with the best live music anywhere.....good job market and very friendly folks. RUNTEX RUNNING STORE is one of the very best.......very fit city and lots of active people! I LOVE AUSTIN and don't even live there....I live a few miles out of the city limits, but visit often! The cost of living will be much cheaper than Boulder! Welcome to TEXAS!
I went to UT Austin for Grad School. Moving away was probably not the best move I ever made. My heartrate goes up and I got all excited when someone mentions this city...
It's clean. It's not everyone's idea of a great place to live, but if you're in your twenties, can't be beat.
Oh, and in case it wasn't mentioned. IT'S HOTTER THAN HELL DURING THE SUMMER!
Austin Rocks! The running community is HUGE! and yes there are a lot of elites that live and train here as well, usually in "stealth mode" most of the time.
The city is clean and the live music, local bars, brew pubs can't be beat. There is always something to do here.
We always welcome more runners:-)
You may want to check out some of these local sites as well.
