Should only do 1 event at Rio wrote:Adding the 200 to the 400 will take a lot out of him. He should stick to one event in Rio. He may want to do only the 200 if he can get that 19.78 down a bit. Heck, even 19.78 is a shot at a medal. 19.78 likely not fast enough for the gold.
Don't rule out another Jamaican for a possible 19.5-.6 and Tyson Gay still has a 19.7 in him.
19.78 would be lucky to get 4th in Rio
Why would you expect the 200m in Rio to be faster than London when the top sprinters Powell, Bolt, Gatlin and Gay are 4 years older and in the twilight of their career and Blake is coming back from injury. There is no new guy that I know of, Jamaican or American who is likely to run 19.5x. Warren Weir, Nickel Ashmeade, Christophe Lemaitre, Alonso Edward and Rasheed Dwyer are other perennial sub-20 athletes but haven't progressed much over the last couple of years and are inconsistent. - I am almost certain a 19.78 will be good for at least bronze and if not it will be the first time in Olympic history.
