Who says we have to root for the Relay teams anymore? I'm supporting Jamaica until that clown is gone.
DM has to be evaluated on actual performance, not on one or two meets but on every one of the major events.
Compare DM's record to the great previous coaches we have had with the USA track and field history at the WC and OG's. It is performance, and not anything else that should count.
There is still time to fix this before Rio, I urge USATF to pull the plug and get a new coach for our sprinters because DM has proven by his record that he simply can't do it.
People seem less pissed off about having dopers run the races than they are about having a doper coaching them.
Close. But no cigar.
People aren't pissed off about the doping part of the equation. They're pissed off about losing. Had the US team held the baton, and won, there'd be a lot less commotion. With a solid record now of DQs and poor changes, with different athletes, the common denominator is the coach. Drummond simply hasn't done well.
Did you see Gatlin's remarks responding to Burrell's comment? Something to the effect of how unfair it is for professional runners to be compared to high school athletes.
Well, Mr Gatlin, many, many high school teams, were they in that race, would have finished higher on the results board than the US pro team. So perhaps the comparison is a valid one.
Gay trains in LA right now. He is my next door neighbor.
IMO: When it comes doen to the 4x100m the coach has little impact. Basically it's up to the sprinters to execute the little details. Speaking from experience. Gatlin and Gay are both over 30 years, I think they would have the experience in the 4x100m to know what to do without a coach.
DM might not deserve to be coach anymore but in terms of the team messing up, that is on the athletes. DM is just the scapegoat.

You're essentially suggesting the coach position is pointless .... in which case why have it at all?
One could make your argument about coaches of any pro athlete in any sport.

No.
Coaches are there for sprints and relay mechanics such as arm/hand position, number of steps when to take off, etc.
But when it comes down to race time if the athletes f##k up then that's their fault.
So not only is Mitchell a US national coach, but his wife is as well? Talk about keeping it in the family. Is USAT&F clear & transparent like the Obama administration?
BUMP - Posted this after the Penn Relays. We had a chance to fix it then. Now we have squat. Thanks USATF for some outstanding work.

Every time... every d*** time.
Same thing happened at the Penn Relays with the 4x100 team. How much evidence is needed?
This is like blaming the president for the price of gas. I blame the athletes. Although this would never happen, but someone like the Long Beach Poly H.S. coach for example would do a better job for the simple fact he has way more experience than anyone the USATF will put forward. No one spends more time coaching relays than a H.S. coach. Exactly how many relays did Mitchell coach this year? Not withstanding the handoffs, Felix should not have been on that relay, Felix in unranked in the 100m and didn't run it at the USOTs and didn't even make it in the 200m. Right now, you are basically putting a 400m sprinter on the world's fastest 4x1.
The blame is on the athletes not the coach you morons. You learn how to pass the stick properly as a kid at any club in America after that it's up to the athletes.
This isn't rocket science.
Put the blame on the proper people.......athletes.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
