Eric van der Els is the best runner in CT this year and a real class act. I was surprised he chose UCONN because he must have had some good other options. Whatever the program is, I would say that a guy like van der Els will make it better.

Technically speaking, distance runners at UB are BUFF if you abbreviate it.

If by this you mean that his potential to score highly at competitions will improve UConn's overall performance, then yes, maybe. However, the discussion has been focused on coaching and development. Van der Els' being on the team is inconsequential.
No. If you're willing to truly compete, you will do extremely well at uconn. If you're not willing to fight for every inch in a race, and a lot of good runners aren't willing, then you won't develop into much of anything anywhere including UCONN. Other schools may keep you around so you can steal an 8th place finish in the conference as a senior, but UCONN will replace you with someone who can potentially win as a sophomore
Yeah, man, get back to us when any UCONN runner wins an individual XC crown or conference title in the track 3K-10K.
They just beat Houston in XC to get second in the conference championships to Tulsa, who is always a national contender. Roy > Magness
what do you mean by this? he makes you do pushups for recovery??
I found an earlier comment suspicious, but just looked up Regional results from the past few years. UConn is not even one of the better teams in the state.

UCONN wisely focused on middle distance and produced tons of all--americans and were able to win a ton of indoor and outdoor conference TEAM championships.
Who were the tons of middle distance all-Americans? I remember Gagnon & Rutt. Were there others?
If Coach Roy is too tough they can always go down the road to ECSU.

Dan Wilson, Elliot Blount, Haven Barnes, Kevin Jenson, Joe Mendel, Logan Jones, Joel Legare, Alvaro Chavez, plus Brian Gagnon and Mike Rutt. And many of them were All American numerous times.
