Ken Goe's recap of the meet is now up.http://www.oregonlive.com/trackandfield/index.ssf/2016/04/edward_cheserek_loses_and_the.htmlHere's what he said about King Ches.
Ken Goe wrote:
Washington's Colby Gilbert, a sophomore from Vancouver's Skyview High School, kept grinding from in front of the men's 5,000. In the end, Cheserek – Oregon's 13-time NCAA champion – couldn't answer Gilbert's 60-second final lap.
"I knew he had a really explosive kick, so I was waiting for him to go," Gilbert said. "I was going to try to go with him and hold him on the outside. But he wasn't there. So I didn't really go until the last 150. By the time I hit the final 100 I saw I had huge gap."
Gilbert crossed in 13:44.96. Cheserek was second in in 13:50.82.
Afterward, Robert Johnson intimated Cheserek wasn't fully 100 percent, although he wouldn't elaborate. And he declined to allow Cheserek to speak for himself to reporters.
Can someone tell me why college coaches can order athletes not to speak to the media. I 100% think athletes shouldn't be paid but also 100% think they should be allowed to talk to whoever the hell they want.
