13:44 for Gilbert.
Ches is done
Oh wait he will say that he ran 174 miles in the am to get his citizenship paperwork handed in and it is now just a few weeks away from being complete
Done? Get outta here. He's gonna be fine and back to his usual form soon enough
Ches looked raggedy the whole way. He stayed with Gilbert until the last 200 but he was laboring throughout the race.
WADA rang him up and he actually answered. Opps.
Only dopes for major competitions.
Y'all are the biggest haters on Ches. He is no different than if another good East African would come into the NCAA level. He wouldn't even contend on the international scale, unlike many East African studs.
He looked like he was just sitting on Gilbert the whole race and moved up when Gilbert did. I'm sure the goal of this race was to get the regional standard and he probably trained through this one.
Definitely pulled up when Gilbert made his move with about 150m to go. That is not to say that Ches could have won. I think he knew he didn't have the speed to match at the end. Probably could have run a few seconds quicker if he didn't pull up.
Ches will be fine.
Don't worry THE KING will destroy the field at NCAA in both the 5 and 10 K at NCAA's . Speaking of destroying how about the Oregon Women 4 by 1 relay just destroying U$C. I THOUGHT U$C was a sprint school????? lol Oregon>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>U$C
THE KING GOT SALAD TOSSED Y'ALL LOLOLOLOL
Haters will hate on the King but the King by the end of next year will have more NCAA National Championship then any other NCAA athlete ever the KING>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>EVERYONE ELSE GO DUCKS
Just watched the video!
Gilbert closed in 30 seconds flat, Cheserek 36 seconds (obviously jogging in it, yes, but he should be able to close in 30 seconds easily too). Are you really telling me he would expend crazy amounts of energy just keeping up with this kid until the last 50m? He was spent and knew he couldn't win the race.
Didn't he run sub-4 at the end of a workout? He couldn't run a touch faster than that pace at the end of a 13:50 5K? Come on!
Nice win for Colby. Ches looked overheated and uncomfortable and he made no effort to cover after staying with him to the 200m mark.
By the way, Colby's legs make Scrawny Arms Rob Lowe look like Lou Ferrigno. Thinnest calves I've ever seen on college-aged American man.
Here's video of the finish of the race:

Who? No really, have no idea who this guy is.
Cheserek did not try to do anything there. No worries about him. He does try at championships and has won almost every one he has done.
only 50% of his sit-n-kick worked today lol the poor little darling god bless him

Indeed when I tweeted out about it, I almost said, "King Cheserek gets destroyed by some guy you've probably never heard of."
He's actually a big talent just not one casual fans know. In HS, Gilbert ran 858. As a frosh at UW, he redshirted by ran 345 and won US juniors in the 5k (14;07 pb). As a redshirt frosh at UW, he was 195th in xc and then did well indoors (4:00 and 7:49) but only ran 1415 outdoors.
In xc this year, he was 32nd, then indoors he ran 2:25.20 for 1k, 3:59.84 for the mile and 7:50.96 for 3000. At NCAAs, he was 8th in the 3k. Today, he's broken 14:00 for the first time with his 13:44. He turned 21 on March 17th.
A rare collegiate loss for Cheserek on the track in a race he tried to win (so ignoring the Stanford 10ks). As a frosh, in track, his only loss besides Stanford 10k was the Pac 12 1500 when he lost to Lawi Lalang in 3:36 and then the NCAA 5k.
Last year, besides Stanford, Chesereks' only loss to a collegian during the season was to Jenkins at NCAAs in the 3k. He also got beat by alot of guys in the Millrose mile but no collegians.
After the serason waqs over, on 7/2/15 at the Portland Summer Twilight 1500, Cheserek was 4th in 3:37.08, lost to two pros plus Oregon's Colby Alexander, who had just graduated.
As a junior, he's had two losses but only one to a collegian.
10/17/15 Pre-Nats XC (2nd in 23:22.8, lost to Virginia Tech's Thomas Curtin)
2/20/16 Millrose Games 3k (6th in 7:40.51; didn't lose to a collegian)
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
