Following yet another Achilles Injury, I have been advised that I have to change my running style. As a female distance runner, this year I ran 34.00 for 10km and 1.16 for a half, I land on the outside edges of the balls of my feet, rolling inwards onto the whole ball but never placing my heels on the floor. I have had a number of foot and ankle problems, particularly during the cross country season and as a result of this recent injury the podiatrist suggests I need to try to strike with my heel first, rolling onto my the ball - like any normal runner I suppose. I tried my first jog tonight and it seemed odd but I managed it. However, my major concern is how long it will take me to reach my peak fitness with a new style, surely using different muscles will take a long time?? What am I talking, weeks, months or years?? Be truthful, any ideas would be appreciated.
