did erik nedeau ever make the olympic team?
Here is an excerpt from his coaching bio
"n addition to coaching, "Ned" has established himself as one of the top middle distance runners in the nation, earning a bronze medal in the World Championships in 1995 and competing at the Olympic Trials. He was also a five-time All-American at Division I Northeastern University and was recently inducted into Northeastern's Athletic Hall of Fame. Nedeau and his wife, the former Amy Lyman, were married in the summer of 2003."
Apparently he never made the Olympics but a World Bronze isn't too bad.
i think his top finish was 4th or 5th at the trials.
he ran 800 at 92 trials and 1500 at 1996 when he was very competitive.
I think he went to the trials in 2000 and 2004 too.
Not 200, just missed it. But, yes in 2004.
Ned's performance at the '96 trials is the stuff of legend as far as I'm concerned. He had a bad case of plantar fasciitis that severely curtailed his ability to train. To make up for it he did enormous amounts of pool running, on the order of 3-4 hours worth some days. Went to the trials and finished fourth, hundredths of a second out of third, on bad wheels. Very down-to-earth and likable guy as well. A shame he wasn't healthy when the olympic year rolled around, but you won't hear him complain or be bitter about it.
I took a recruiting trip to Amherst and was very impressed with Mr. Nedeau. Great guy, classy, really knew his stuff. I chose my school based on things other than running, but if I had chosen it based purely on running, there is no one I'd rather run under than Erik Nedeau.
Erik ran a fricking ballsy race today. He led the majority of the race, and then with maybe 1000-900 to some dude blew past him. Then another, then another, but he held on... he looked like he was dying, literally. Then a couple more guys came up on his shoulder and it looked like he was going to fade to last. Then with like 400 to go he goes into insane overdrive and works his way right back into second (or at least on the shoulder of second place), and he and this other guy almost catch the leader who had formed a huge gap! It was really impressive to watch. Nedeau has so much heart. 8:10-ish, not too shabby. What a bad ass.
