Sh1t doesn't start to happen at 50. That's what held everyone back all these years and that's what Sean doesn't believe in. Stupid Masters community tries to brainwash the youth with statements like that, "yeah, it was all good until I hit 38 and then sht started happening."... just to dwindle down the competitive pool.
Life is life.
U r underestimating this brainwashing and indoctrination of our running youth... Crop spraying , the CIA, robots, and contrails are part of the conspiracy as well.

No dude, not in this case. Not when 99% of the world's best runners retire in their mid/late 30s.
I hope you and I are around in 9 years' time and that Lagat will still be racing. We can talk then.
thanks Pete, always interesting to hear how the fast old guys get (stay) fast.. an astonishing run for Sean, damned impressive.
oddly enough my cliff was at 50 too - times were distressingly slow, then 51-53 were lost entirely to achilles problems, no racing and hardly any running. Never recovered from those lost years and age marching faster than I could train against it..

Exactly. Sorta. I guess my point is, it's like saying that because Kamworor ran under 59 in the horrible weather "dudes rule", or because Dibaba ran 3:50, "chicks rule". Stupid subject statement. Sean Wade running sub-15 for 5k at 50 years old DOES NOT mean old dudes rule. That's all.
How is it that your sperm won the race to the egg?
How old are you? Yes shit happens at 50 plus.

It was under 50 years old.

Thank you for reinforcing my point, Pete. I just turned 50 myself, and, although I don't agree with you that I'm an "old guy" (I'm in great health and can probably pass for 35 in physical appearance),.
Want to be money if you asked 100 35 year old chicks how old this guy is they would all say 45+:) Peoples ability to delude themselves is unmatched. Very few are like me that look 20 years younger than they actually are:)

I just asked my 24 yo bartender how old she thought I was and she said late 30s-early 40s......(( :>{) )

I always looked young for my age. Somewhere along the line that all changed. I had a great running year for me at 50. Let my hair grow long (more gray) dropped that last 5 lbs(race thin) and got more "great job old guy" comments than ever before!!
I have heard that Sean does tons of time in the pool aqua jogging. That may be an important lesson for aging runners. Give up the miles and get into the pool for longevity.
The other important point is that Sean does not get any money for doing this. He nust does it for the pure challenge.

Spending "tons of time in the pool aqua jogging" would have to be one of the most boring and soul destroying things anyone can do, and to do it for no monetary return at the age of 50...ah well, make up your own mind.
haha good one, surprised nobody commented on this yet
Because it's not funny. OK, maybe in the "buh dum, bum" way.

You know what tips are, right?
You look 50 and try to flirt with 24 year-olds. Ouch.
The performance by Mr. Sean is actually more impressive than the world record race!
The time running exceeds the VO2max duration so is much more difficult.

Yeah. You are right. He should spend his time antiquing. Or maybe gain 150 lbs and ride a Harley all over town. Then, there is always woodworking. Nothing is as thrilling as putting the final finish on a nice cutting board. Ham radio operators are pretty awesome dudes. Oh, there is always sitting on the internet all day trashing other people anonymously on message boards. That is certainly better than spending a few hours a week in the pool to run totally age defying times on the track.
Nice post!

Besides the excellent reply to this ridiculous post by Precious Roy above, I might add that posters like "Boring" make the typical (lazy, self-serving, and inaccurate) assumption that a masters runner like Sean doing something for "no monetary return" must be some crazed old dude who's sacrificed his life for fast times. In fact, Sean built from scratch a very successful business--Kenyan Way, which has, among other things, guided more than 5,000 runners to successful completion of a marathon or half marathon--enduring quite a few lean years on his way to earning a very healthy income, one that allows him the freedom to train and race (or anything else he wants to do, since he's now financially secure). A former Olympian (for New Zealand, in the marathon), Sean defies the low-information LR posters who believe masters runners are either wannabes who never had success as open runners or wannabes trying to find the success in their 40s, 50s, and beyond by sacrificing all other aspects of life. Specifically to the point of "no monetary return," Sean's business is aided immeasurably by his continued excellence in the sport.
Bottom line: "Boring" and other posters who shoot from the hip without having a clue about what they're talking about often end up shooting themselves in the as$.
Here's an idea: Celebrate the accomplishment of a 50-year-old, and use it as motivation to keep up your own running past the age when your parents finally kick you out of their basement and you, too, have to craft a self-sustaining and personally rewarding life for yourself. (FYI, It's a sign of incredible immaturity to think it's up to you to judge the healthy life choices of another adult.)
That is very impressive but Dane once ran a marathon a week for a year. Has Sean ever run a marathon and, if so, what was his PR. Dane once ran a sub 2:50!!!!
