That would actually be somewhat entertaining. Rupp tries to solo a 7:35 and then the A heat guys have to follow (this could actually benefit Rupp since they won't be able to draft off him). Imagine the suspense.
Yes, this would be a good benefit for Rupp, to qualify out of trouble.

You do realize that Galen has declared to be on the World Half team as well?
That is awesome, if so.

I see no proof that he is in "marathon shape". All he did was run a 2:11? I think. Lots of elite 1500/5000/10000 guys can do that without focusing on the marathon specifically.
They "think" that they can.
Rojo, if you want a good fast solo mid-D guy, there was a fella called H. Rono running for WSU, spring of '78.
For the record, in 2014 they ran 19 guys in a straight 3000m final. It was in Albuquerque (5000ft elevation) and the winning time was 7:46.
So for poster that said USA's never goes fast 7:46 (at 5,000ft) converts to around 7:35-7:37 at sea level. That's pretty quick for championships race.
My thought is in the end they will run one big final probably around 18-20 guys.

I'm not sure Salazar is that smart, but maybe. Rupp really should not be running world indoor.
He has only a slight chance to make the US team, and almost no chance to place high at worlds if he does. Maybe if he was in 3:51/7:30 shape, but he's in marathon shape.
He should have shut it down after the marathon so he could start building back up for olympics. He keeps saying his focus is on the 10K, but I think his best chance for a medal might be the marathon. Especially if rumors about his workouts are true.
What workout rumors?

It had never crossed my mind that Alberto would want Rupp in the "B" heat. I had to laugh when I saw that one. I still don't buy it.
Ha, when I saw the thread title the first thing that came to my mind was:
Jefe's mind: "I don't care what's in the thread, there is no way Alberto would let that happen!"
Jefe: "But what if that was the plan all along?!?"
Jefe's mind: KaBoom!
If this is even remotely close to reality then Alberto truly deserves the Dr. Evil Lifetime Achievement Award for Distance Running.

Also dominated the Zatopek 10,000m in Australia (in a pair of XC spikes), then proceeded to drop off the face of the earth?
It must be the Joseph Menjo alright. He soloed a 12:55 5K followed by a 26:56 10K a couple of weeks later.
Yeah he was the guy who prevented Solinsky from having the world lead for 2010 right? Ran a sub-27 at the end of the season in a race where 2nd place was like 32min!
Rupp has the world qualifier for the 3000 right now.
I think he is one of 6 Americans that do.
Why would he be placed in the slow heat at USA's?

10 non-collegiate men have run sub-7:50 this year on IAAF-legal tracks

20 miles at 4:52 pulse never going above 150.
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=7033953This might be a reach, but would Rupp and the NOP come up to Seattle and run in a low-key Division II last chance meet this Saturday and run fast enough not to be put in the slow heat?

Are those tracks legal for qualifying?
better still. might salazar pay two or three guys to come up and one of them run slightly faster than rupp (to ensure he stays "bumped" to the slow heat, and one or two fo them slightly slower than rupp, but still under 8:00, so that they can then be placed in the slow heat and pace rupp. Boom! there's your true dr evil/mr genius plan from saladbar. I'd actually cheer for that.

I believe you can use an oversize track to qualify for USAs (I could be wrong; I'm too lazy to look at the usatf site now). Rupp is qualified; getting his time down is only for seeding purposes.
Question is could Rupp run about 7:53 right now without expending any real effort?
Yee haw. I tell you what , this Galen Rupp sure is making this po dunk indoor meet interesting. I betcha if he is in the slow heat he'll have a rabbit in that heat for the first half. That Alberto knows what he's doing well.

But they don't all have the World qualifying time.
Rupp does.
All world qualifiers should be placed in the fast heat.

I'm not sure he's in marathon shape. He's in good enough shape for a marathon, but according to centro they are still working out together some and that has to be more 1500/3000 work because centro has no business doing 10k work. Rupp is probably very strong, and fairly sharp coming into marathon trials. Big question is how he responds after that but he hardly pressed so that could help.
whaaaaaaat? you've clearly never trained (properly) for the mile in your life son
