Splits from the 08 trials. Hall went 66:17/62:45, won by over 2 minutes.
I think Hall would have won easily. He ran 59:43 with no competition earlier that year, mixed it up in London 5 months later with a 2:06:17, going out in 62:14 and staying with the leaders through 35K (1:43:54 ... Lel would win in 2:05:15).
Hall was basically a marathon specialist. He didn't have a ton of super fast times (the 2:06 in London 08 and the wind-aided 2:04:57 at Boston '11), but remember he chose Boston and/or New York often over the faster courses with pacemakers, and he almost always was in the mix in his marathons (from 2007 to 2012 anyway).
Rupp has proven himself to be America's best 10K runner; one of the best in the world really, and a very good 5K guy with great speed too (3:50.9 and 7:30 indoors).
Running and winning his one marathon to date, in tactical championship settings, with heat a major factor, doesn't tell us yet if he is/will be a great marathoner.
Let's be honest, dominating the competition at the US trials (by itself) doesn't say too much, given the current down state of American men in the marathon.
I'd take the proven, natural marathoner Hall who was probably in his prime 07-08 over Rupp, for sure. Too me it's a silly question, at this point.
