Former 1:45 runner. Have not raced in 4 years. Too far gone to return to that level?

Let's not kid ourselves. A 4 week break would be great. A 4 year break doesn't do any good, and implies he simply isn't self motivated enough to keep at it.

I had a 15 year break and have broken nearly all my old pr's. This guy was on a much, much, much higher level, but he's still young. If he wants it, he can do it.

What did you run for 400 and 1500? Thinking you might be better moving up to mile/1500 if you only had 49 speed. You are unlikely to come back and make a national team at any distance, but wouldn't it be nice to have sub-4 on your resume if you haven't already.

his break might make you better in the long run !

erase any expectation you may have in your head and just train for the love of it , don't set any time tables , and i assure you you will be surprising yourself when the training starts to stick !

Yes, it's possible. I didn't run at all for 14 years after school, and in six months of daily training for masters 800/1500 running I'm almost back to where I left off. Granted, as a kid I was very inconsistent in my training and as a result always seemed to be fighting injury, so my times weren't what they could have been.

Use your age and perspective to your advantage and train smart. At 28 your speed is still near peak, but if that was a weak area consider moving up. Build up the mileage, do the right lifts, then gradually add in speedwork. Use this year to get back into the process, and just try to enjoy yourself. No pressure - don't get hurt. If things go well, take it up a notch the next year. It may take 3-4 years to reach your potential. Good luck and have fun.

Willie Brown, mentioned on 1st page. Look for a PB of 1:45.9. Whenever someone says 1:45 they really mean sub 1:46.....definitely two very different things.

Get yourself into the hands of a capable PEDiatrist, and build up for half a year on a good course of 'roids and HGH. Then go off the juice and license/list yourself. Finish the buildup until you are allowed to compete again. You will benefit from the drugs for a long time.

Sorry if it sounds jaded. But you have to assume that a good deal of your competition is on it. Either you are the one in a million, or there is very little you get out of competing clean internationally.

Glad to hear that you are still in one piece. If you are serious about making a comeback why are you messing about on this message board instead of asking a coach you trust ? Or is that the problem ?

If you are back living on the south coast then you need someone locally.

That might be Mottram who is suggesting you contact Whiteman - but it isnt the worst idea in the world.

I find it quite funny that people post their thoughts on what you should be doing without knowing anything about you, your training, who coached you and how etc - some even question if you are a troll ! Laugh - I nearly bought a drink.
