7:59.33. Wow.
7:59.33. Wow.
SMASHED the record. Anyone see the race? Was it well paced?
Slowest 200: 33.6 (penultimate lap)
Fastest 200: 29.4 (final lap)
Every other lap was between 31.5 and 32.9. Damn fine pacing.
31, 31, 31, 31, 32, 32, 31, 31, 32, 32, 32, 31, 32, 33, 19
And apparently he hasn't been running outside of a treadmill in a week.
Is he the real deal??
Will he go sub 4 next weekend??
last last 29.... def not 19
Is there a video anywhere? And yeah I wouldn't bet against sub 4
He has been the real deal for a while now. When people were asking whether Grant Fisher was a top-4 all-time HS runner, it was obvious Hunyer was as good or better and he still had another grade to go.

I wouldn't go that far. To that point, all Hunter had done was get 4th at Footlocker as a junior (Fisher 1st that year, and as a junior), run 8:48 indoors for a full 2 mile (Fisher had run a 4:03 almost falling down at the same meet), and won the Penn Relays mile in 4:07. The Grant Fisher top-4 talk was right after his sub-4 and before the Dream Mile. The next week, Hunter proved he was incredible.
I was completely expecting him to run 8:10 or something today. At this point last year, he ran 8:59 for the 3200. He got 20 seconds faster by outdoor track. I know he won't be running 7:39 outdoors, but still, he's at an incredible level right now.
Who had the record? Rupp? What was it?
Real Deal? Is he? Seriously?
he runs an 8:38 two mile equiv or slighty better? In January late? That is absurd.
Like I said, from a track time perspective he did not have far to go if any as an All Timer, I hope most of that is quieted today?
he has now run 4:02 and clearly under 8:40 equiv. That is really friggin good.

hahahahaha! a hs kid runs 7.59, and you ask if he is "the real deal"???? are you completely retarded????
He is going to be right on the edge of sub-4:00. Hopefully a little sharpening and adrenaline gets him there.
What impresses me is that he did this off of what has to be the oddest week of training he has had as a young man. I live twenty miles away from Purcellvile, where he lives (a nice town, by the way, which is striving to avoid the hassles which come with suburbanization), and we had 26 inches of snow. Purcellville had it worse. There was no way he could do any meaningful running outdoors, and the town has no indoor track. I get it, he has a fine base from the fall, but the last week is hardly the way to prepare for a major meet against top flight runner. I am impressed.
He's still not as good as Fernandez who did his 3000 time in rout to his American HS 2 mile record of 8:34! Drew ran more than 200 meters shorter, so sure Fernandez could have beaten that. Also, it was in a HS only race! Ask Luke P who saw only his butt cheeks! LV's time is inferior due to the fact that he was completing against adults as well, plus epigenetics and age cheating! And Chez - He's 35 right?
Nobel effort but not quite there yet unfortunately.
And Gerry L - dirt track, huge spikes and on chocolate, Coke and grill cheese diet!
And what's this trash about "flat tracks" - give me a frick'in break!

the weather might have gotten him a little rest, but he did this a week after the flu, which to me is more impressive (German as a freshman in college at age 18 still did run something like 7:47 3k while clearly ill). Hunter is now one of the all-time greats with this record. He now has 4:02/7:59/8:42, the FL South record, and a FL xc title. Clearly Verzbicas's outdoor record could go as well. Mid 3:50s outdoors in a pro race is a very doable goal for him, I believe.
I wish he didn't blow his wad at FL South though. Would've been nice to see him press for 14:40ish.

Very impressive run. With the conversion to 7:53, to me, this is like Webb's outdoor mile record. Incredibly impressive and nearly untouchable going forward. It will take another huge talent to go sub 7:53.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
