As some have said- Salazar's 26.2 training has been a lot less successful than his track training. He was bound to have some success with those athletes.
I didn't say Salazar has had no success. Reread the top paragraph.

Pointing out a fact does not make someone an apologist. To be clear - I like the Brojos much more than Rupp/NOP. After all, the Brojos started my favorite website, they do an excellent job covering my favorite sport, and Rojo's blatant racism/xenophobia cracks me up.
However, there is no denying that the Brojos hate Rupp. I don't know why they even try to pretend like they are unbiased when it comes to him or NOP. I thought the exact same thing that others have already mentioned when I saw the mask picture. It may have been a subconscious dig, but I doubt it. I don't know why they can't just admit to their obvious feelings.

I'm very glad rupp will be there - it was starting to look like Ritz Meb Abdi all over again.
I think Rupp will win the event - he's simply the class of the us long distance running world, and his half marathons have been solid.
He'll get $80,000 if he wins, I'm sure nike will give him some sort of large bonus for making the olympic team and he'll be a big story going into Rio, ensuring some fame and dollars.
but he probably has enough money already - I don't think dollars make a huge difference in his plans.
When Phil Knight delcares he's Rupp's "second father," while Rupp is in high school, and then you win a slew if NCAA titles for Oregon, and then win an Olympic Silver medal running for Nike -- dollars pretty much don't figure into your plans. He's happily Nike For Life. The kids going to be okay.

Yes I'm a little worried about how the marathon will impact Rupp's training. Normally this time of year he's running 1200 repeats after his big races on an indoor track which the meet directors let him access to after the meet is over. Will the Mayor of LA let Salazar shut down the streets of LA after the race is over? Or how will his body respond if he has to do them on an outdoor track? ;)
rupp will drop out at 18 miles if he's not feeling tip top. then prep for 10k track.
seems like he ran 62 min half comfortably.
there is the possibility rupp can be in 206 shape, or there abouts and it takes 210 to make the team, then this marathon won't take so much out of him.

What? Knight will be 78. He won't run Nike much longer. Then who will be Rupp's sugar daddy? What will care for Rupp once Knight is gone?
Rupp doesn't have a college degree. What would his future at Nike be?

In a USATF interview he declares he is running both marathon and at least 10k and possibly 5k.

Rupp is not going to be a good marathoner. He is way too much of a pu$$y.

The worst that would happen is Rupp is shuffled out by some mid-level manager type after he's shuffled a few times. It happens all the time.

Would love to see Meb make the team but isn't he 40 yrs old? There is always a new or relative unknown guy that makes the marathon team. Meb will run well but no top 3 this time.
Why do people always say this?
When was the last time a new or unknown guy made the team?
2012 - Meb, Hall, Abdi. No dark horse there.
2008 - Hall, Ritz, Sell. No dark horse there.
2004 - Culpepper, Meb, Browne. No dark horse there.
2000 - no one was any good and 1 guy made the team by default.

I think Sell was a dark horse for 2008. How many really expected him to beat Meb, Kannochi, Abdi, etc.

I agree, that's popped up on the boards a few times and is annoying. You could say that all the favorites don't always make the team (i.e. say Ritz in 2012), but even if two of Meb/Ritz/Luke/Rupp bomb out then anyone from the next tier still isn't exactly coming out of nowhere.
I'm a runner and I don't care about who runs the marathon trials or places in the top three.
I'll be running during the race. Life is not a spectator sport.
My post had nothing to do with yours, sorry if it seemed that way.
I think that is Salazar could coach himself, as a college Senior and 28 minute 10k runner to a 2:09 at New York then he can coach Rupp to at least a time that fast.
Truth spoken by a fellow qualifier-
How is a dude with "severe asthma flare-ups" and TUE-worthy allergies supposed to hammer for two hours in the smoggiest city in America?

Except that Salazar does not have a stable full of 2:09 marathoners.
Here's a list of the top fifteen guys. The top three will surely come from this group. I can't see anyone else (Bauhs, Bruce) in the running.
Ritz
Rupp
Puskedra
Meb
Abdi
Curtis
Eggleston
Chelanga
Kibet
Estrada
Arciniaga
Pennel
Ward
Llano
Vail
But based on may factors, including marathon PR, recent form, being uninjured, etc., the following occupy the top tier, and the top three will have to come from this group of seven:
Ritz
Rupp
Puskedra
Meb
Curtis
Kibet
Estrada
Yes, no Ward--PRs of 2:12:56 and 61:42 don't indicate top three; and no Pennel--PRs of 2:13:33 and 61:44 don't indicate top three.
Lastly, however, I think the top three will indeed come from these four guys:
Ritz
Rupp
Puskedra
Meb

Rupp is the only one in your list without a marathon PR.

Who the hell is Mark Conover????
He said many factors, dimwit.
Asthma could become an issue for Galen if the day is warm/humid. Plus, if the day is warm, anyone, including Galen, could blister up from the numerous turns and sweating/water-logged shoes.
I'd hate to see that, since the race is certainly more exciting, and having Ritz, Meb, Ware (coached by Eyestone), Puskedra, Chelanga, and probably a couple more that are unexpected, will make it fast.
However, the odds that someone breaks away between 10 miles and 25 km and holds on (like Meb at Boston), is low, since so many recent marathons deliver the winner's move after 30 km, and I do believe Galen has more talent than anyone else to hold a steady fast pace longer.
So, unless severe blistering and/or asthma flare-ups occur (and that could be a very real possibility), I think Galen wins. And I think Galen only wants to win, his ego does not want just a top 3 finish. As does anyone else competing, the win is first, then top 3 if not in contention to win.
As to the person who dissed Rod deHaven (our lone marathon runner in 2000 Olympics), Rod was the equal to any, his qualifier came at the toughest marathon course possible (Pittsburg), far too hilly for fast times. Rod was the equal to a Brian Sell, and no one doubts how good he was.
