EVERY 800 is tactical. Not every tactic is "sit and kick".

I have an 800 PR faster than Brenda and no way I could run an all out 3 mile at 5 min pace. How could that possibly be a tempo? Is she in 15 flat or better 5k shape? If so why not triple at the trials?
God I love her.
Given her 5000m PR is 15:35, I'm curious why she is running an in-practice 3 mile at 5000m pace...
Personally, if I was in shape to do something similar, I'd just close the last 200 and PR in the 5000.
Maybe, just maybe this year will be different for her, but I am incredibly skeptical since she has yet to show that this miraculous indoor form translates to anything of substance when it matters.
I don't trust x:9 times.
I'd second that.
I was just a UK club runner, but slightly faster than BM at 800m - 5000m and I can't imagine soloing 3 miles at 15:27 5000m pace.
Since her actual PR is 15:35.65 this is basically a PR 5000m race effort.
Suggests either something was off with the time, or that she has way under-performed at 5k, and she's potentially a better 1500/5000m type than an 800/1500m runner.
Listen to Peppers he is right on; Vigil has 2 types of tempos, aerobic and anaerobic; the former is usually 40 seconds over CURRENT mile pace and you go for as long as you can hold pace. B Mart loves this w/o because it hurts and makes the race seem easier. The "Tag" is usually done 5+ minutes after the w/o and helps with the final kick and teaches the body to adapt to lactic build up, B Mart wants the last 100 to hurt cuz she knows it will help her on race day. Vigil has a lot on the internet and it is not for the faint of heart, very tough, very effective.
