Yes these aren't necessarily Coe, and in any case, seem weak and indirect.Yes Diack built up his inner circle, but up until 2011, things were going well, and even in 2011-2012, the problem wasn't fully evident, even for those aware that Russian sanctions were slow.Seems like "failure to address ... governance issues" is the worst example of the VP council's "negligence".(Of the many things that got detailed, and reasoned, support, Dick Pound was pretty weak in supporting this opinion that "some of the Council could have not known")These aren't scandalous issues that should force Coe to step aside, or resign, or for the public to rally and call for immediate resignation. Coe should go for something much more juicy than that -- a Lord deserves better.Lauren Fleshman said "give him a second chance".I think she got one part wrong -- give him a FIRST chance.I think Dick Pound is right to endorse Coe, ("don't blame Coe for the whole council's failure", "the IOC screwed up and were able to fix themselves"), even if it makes him look contradictory. People can correct mistakes of negligence, once they become aware of the issue. Alan Abrahamson also wrote an opinion piece supporting Coe, with some good arguments. Even if Coe's worst crime is that they didn't address governance, he's doing it now -- better late than never. If it's not going well in a year or so, then grade him, and sack him if you must.Or name someone better.
