Sheila Reid is losing It - Hilarity Ensues - Says switch from 1500 to mile is "male nostalgia"

Typical woman playing the victim and trying to manipulate. I thought Sheila was better than this. Those comments, belittling old people and men in general, now saying "they do hate women." Why does she feel the need to belittle anyone who simply disagrees with her? She does hate men is more appropriate. That must be why this argument arose in the first place. She is jealous that she does not get the as much recognition as the men is how I see this.

She is simply channeling her "inner TRUMP" to stay relative on twitter...

It's pretty rich for a female runner to complain about being subjugated by the patriarchy whenever a decision doesn't go their way. Meanwhile, many more women receive running scholarships than men, even though there is less depth in women's running. There are also female-only road races that offer prize money, with no male equivalent and women-only running brands that only offer sponsorship to female runners. Imagine the outrage from third wave feminists if a road race decided that it was only going to offer prize money to male runners.

I'm sick and tired of this victimization culture. Perhaps you old folks can't relate because, when you were growing up, being white, male and straight DID mean that things were handed to you on a silver spoon. I've got news for you - the reality today is much different and, if anything, playing the victim card seems to increasingly get you ahead in life. That's pretty f'd up, if you ask me.

Sheila's comments are pretty minor and perhaps don't deserve the amount of anger and scrutiny that they are receiving but, as a pro, she is looked up to by youngsters and I'd prefer that she not pass on these sentiments of victimization.

That's a pretty solid stance you have on the surface, but you're missing some things.

1. No one feels oppressed. MANY feel that what she said is stupid, wrong, and frankly a little egocentric--she's complaining about this only because it affects her, not out of some purist track idealogy. If they changed the 800 to the 1000 she wouldn't give a rat's ass.

2. Ad Hominem attacks are perfectly acceptable responses to stupid statements, especially in this situation, where they come from the "white male" group she likes to complain about. She invited every white male to have a chirp back at her. If I said "Uggh black people" on social media, every black person has the right to respond accodingly.

3. There's only the sense of outrage because of 1) the title of this thread, 2) everyone having a comment on this issue, 3) the humor in a professional runner complaining about races that don't affect her 4) a Canadian complaining about American track decisions and 5) Two very polarized sides, with both so sure of their side that they assume the other side is full of idiots.

Ultimately she's upset about something caused by the fact that Canada is metric and America is imperial, and she wants to make it something more than it is. It's not a gender or race issue, it's literally a measurement one, and she needs to chill.

I prefer the mile. I'll always prefer the mile.

Sheila Reid is a narcissistic POD. Her utterance of the phrase "old white dudes" now proves her to be a self-loathing racist. Last time I looked she is white herself. She even refers to herself as a "God" in the tweet announcing her Rio "A standard" time. It is good she has the A standard, she can watch the final in person from the stands.

Hey Sheila, I'm a white dude in my mid 50s, who regularly dates and beds young white chicks in their 20s and 30s, all of them way more attractive and intelligent than you. Everyone is a victim of society. No one has it easy. The only way out is when they bury you or cremate you. Every socio-economic group has its own unique set of challenges and stresses.
