The Mt. Marathon is the biggest deal in Alaska. Winners of that event have more notoriety than Olympians, NCAA podium finishers, or top rankings.

Look up the winner, Emelie Forsberg. I never heard of her- but she is a very impressive athlete.
If I'm thinking of the right woman, she operates a little smoothie shop right in Seward.
She is a pro trail runner from Sweden. I don't think she has a shop in Seward.

Its freaky
Yeah it really is, I find it disturbing
Also disturbing how she slid down the ice intentionally
It's called glissading. Not recommended for track 10ks.

Not exactly Rupp Approved

Here is the terrain she cut her chops on:

Is that the race where the dude went up but never came down?

I did those all the time in grade school.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaaRXiVNBFkSome top athletes have won-dominated this race, but most of the best are XC skiers. Bill Spencer, Todd Boonstra, Nina Kempell, and Holly Brooks all were pretty fast runners as well as an Olympic skiers. But for the most part winning men have 10K PRs in the 31 to 33 min range and for women maybe like 36 or 37.
4:16 is a babe who is that?

Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Thanks to the original poster giving us the link. Would love to run this myself one day if the wife lets me take a trip to Alaska (NOT likely)...
No wonder she runs like the Wisco course, and in the altitude in Nevada (MW champs that I saw online), like they are no big deal. At the moment, unless someone steps up - Allie O may have a lock on NCAA XC championship the next 3 years as long as she avoids injury... speaking of which.... Do you think Ihmels (sp?) let's her run this again next summer (if he actually has a say)? I think I agree with other posters that think this is just a little too high risk of a race for injury. Then again, if AllieO insists that she runs this race for whatever reason, I would probably not object if I were her coach, as she would probably beat the crap out me!
If I were her coach - I'd STRONGLY SUGGEST she not to run this race anymore. She is such a huge talent, that risking injury winning this local race is just crazy.
However, I don't care if I get an injury - this race looks like a great experience that I would love to do someday.
If I were her coach - I'd also say that this is a race you can do again AFTER you've collected as many NCAA medals and Olympic medals as possible. Seriously - after watching her for the first time at NCAAs, I think this girl has a shot at being a world class 10K or marathoner. We'll see...
Allie O - if you bother reading the drivel on this MB - I wish you all the best!
Damn she is a sexy beast I wish she picked Oregon oh well best of luck to her.
I admit it... I think I believe this girl could be our marathon future at the 2020 or 2024 Olympics. Reminds me of a the tiny girl named Samuelson who kicked international butt in the 80's. Hope Allie O has a great and successful career.
Allie says in her post-race interview that Ihmels has green-lighted this race for next year.
That said, I wan to reiterate that SHE WAS COMING OFF A SERIOUS INJURY when she ran this and then went to World Mts..
"Tiny but tough" is all I can say. Like the Arctic Fox which runs around at -40 degrees like it's no big deal.
That's an impressive event, and also quite dangerous.
I would personally recommend to anyone I cared about to not run it.
Saw the reference to sliding on ice in one of the posts above - so had to watch the whole video this morning. Just after cresting the mountain she gets on her rear and starts sliding down pretty darn fast.
Before seeing this I didn't realize how freakin' strong she really is.
Folks - this appears to be a little beast without fear. Racing her will be a daunting task as you know she will not be afraid to grind it out through a lot of pain. Just wonder what kind of times she drops this indoor and outdoor? Not sure about her closing speed relative to others if she finds herself in a sit-and-kick 5K.
Good luck Allie!
Amazing all of the camera work for that race. Guess it helps to have a compact race course, but the production values are higher than Foot Locker or NCAA XC.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
