I was at the meet on Saturday. There was a pacer who took him (and about 4 other A&M runners) through in 2:00. Donavan proceeded to lead the rest of the race with only Alex Riba hanging on to him. He looked very smooth closing in a low 28 for his last 200, even looking around to see if any of the other A&M runners had stayed with him. He was quoted in the recap article as saying he wished he had more guys pushing him up front.
He is training under coach Alleyne Francique as part of A&M's 400/800 group. They have two 1:47 guys, and another three 1:49-1:50 guys who train with him. As we all know, Texas A&M is focused on winning national outdoor track championships, which means maximizing points any way possible. Donavan will be focusing on the 800, DMR 1200 leg (indoors only), and 4x400, while possibly dabbling in the open 400 if the team needs him at SEC's and/or NCAA's indoor/outdoor.
An inside source says this is the only mile he will run all indoors, and that he will most likely open up with a 1500 outdoors in similar 3:47-3:48 fashion. His training with Coach Francique has only one aerobic run per week (30 min run on Sunday). Look for him to light it up in the 800-1200 this indorr season!
