This is pretty much spot on. I'm surprised to hear so many who think you may be able to walk on at most and even get money at some. Look at 2015. 15:25 wasn't even top 150 in D3 indoors. Not even top 10 in the Horizon League - a pretty low end DI conference. Like Primo said if you want to get a different experience academically then transfer and hopefully you can walk on - however most of the high academic DI programs you would have to run a bit faster to get much attention. If you want to run for sure and have a chance to improve plus enrich your academic experience look at some of the top D3 schools in the UAA, NESCAC, etc. It depends on what academic programs you are looking at but there are some really good D3 schools with great coaches/teams.
