We were pretty surprised to see the front page story on NYPost.com is on Alysia Montano "US Olympian wants medal she had stolen by Russian dopers".
Good to see her getting some pub. She was only 5th at the Olympics but 2 cheats cost her not only a bronze medal but hundreds of thousands in lifetime earnings. Maybe now she'll make more long term as a result.

And it looks like Alysia is finally getting the PR she deserves. We've always been amazed that she didn't get more publicity or endorsements after running USAs last year 8 months pregnant and then coming back a year later and winning this year. But she's got NYPost.com cover right now and also spoke to Chris Chavez of SI today and has a more running centric article here:
http://www.si.com/more-sports/2015/11/09/wada-russia-doping-investigation-alysia-montano-mariya-savinova-olympics-medals
As Chris note, "Montaño could receive a silver medal from the 2010 world indoor championships and bronze medals from the 2011 world championships, 2012 Olympics and 2013 world championships."
So she could go from being America's near miss woman to a 3 time medallist. Montano was 4th in 2011, 5th in 2012, and 4th in 2013.
Good for Alysia to be getting the pub she deserves.

Maybe if you were less hell bent on NOP/AlSal and hobby jogging marathoners going down, you would have noticed this injustice before today.

Really?!?!

Just ban everyone else in the world on trumped up charges and you too can win a gold medal.
-
Bmart could get her 2013 bronze up to a silver too
good stuff
Doesn't excuse the way Alysia runs her races though -
Anna Pierce would move up and get a medal in the 2010 world Indoor as well...

Like #4 U.C. Berkeley needs another Olympic medal.
-
The most shocking thing is that Caster Semenya is now officially a gold medallist.

Just to point out the obvious: saying that Alysia Montano is the victim of an injustice in this case means assuming that she is clean. I have no reason to think otherwise (I don't really know much about her at all), but come on man, it's 2015!! Do you really feel comfortable assuming any elite athlete is clean? Isn't that one of the main takeaways from the last few decades of doping scandals: that if somebody is doing well in their sport, there is a reasonable chance they are doping?
It just seems hopelessly naive to say, well, the Russian got nabbed, so let's move up our people who are obviously without blemish, like, duh. All I'm asking is a few grains of salt to be applied when mentioning these types of situations: i.e. "assuming she is clean, Montano was cheated of a medal", etc. -
^This.

She's innocent because she hasn't been convicted of doping. Also, as far as we know right now, she doesn't compete for a nation that endorses state-run doping.
So yeah, while she may be just as doped up as, say, Wang Junxia or Marita Koch were, at present time we don't have evidence of it. -

Cal needs alot more than Alysia to catch the Stanford's Olympics medal count. -
Agree ... no way is Montano clean. Anyone faster than 1:59.0 or so, I'd call dirty.

Exactly.
This is the way the system was set up to work, and that's how it worked.
Convict the people you don't want to get the medals, with bogus tests and no bad results whatsoever, ignore the positives of people you like, i.e. from your own country etc, toss in high sum pay offs with coercive threats from people in high places, constant headlines by unscrupulous web sites, and you can have almost total control of who gets the medals and who doesn't. The corrupt and nefarious system is working to perfection. -
i am as furious as everyone else about the systematic doping by Russia. I was originally extremely sympathetic to Montano. Then I watched the 2012 Olympic 800m.
Montano didn't lose a medal because the Russians doped. She lost because she ran a poor tactical race. She went out too fast, at 1.53 pace. She set the pace and got gobbled up by better racers. The Russians were dead last after 150 and ran patient.
Sure the Russians would not have ran as well if it wasn't for the drugs. But, Montana did herself no favors by using bad tactics.
That, and there was a man in front of her.... -
Do you really think that the results would be any different if she ran "patiently" with the Russians for 650 meters?

absolutely. i think if she went out in 58 and let someone else lead she would have run closer to the winning time of 1.56. -
Savinova's last 200m were unreal. No one could have kept up with her. Semenya charged hard the last 100m and was still not even in the same zip code. Maybe Montano would have held on better had she not been passed by the Russians like she was running in the wrong direction. I am sure that she did not expect to have Savinova blast by her on the final turn. She probably expected to hear footsteps the last 100m and hope that she could hold everyone off to the tape. But getting wailed on by Savinova on the turn had to have taken all the wind from her sails.

I am definitely not saying should would have won. But, she would have had a much better chance of getting a medal had she ran smarter.
Just to recap I can't stand the Russian cheats and I am big fan of Montano.
