former student? does that mean took one class? how about passed the class? how about attended class at all?
millennials have really lowered the bar--to barely high school level--for alumni. what a joke ... anyone can pretend to be a psuedo-student.

Actually\, matriculation is what's required. Actually attending class is not necessary. Money always comes first.

What makes you think Rupp didn't complete the 25 hours he needed for his degree between 2009 and now? Someone that close to finishing with a 3.8 GPA doesn't just quit. Use your brain.
elfie rupp never managed to graduate; he had to drop out. It took him five years to get three years of credits. He mostly took online courses, in a cupcake major at one of the easiest schools in the world. And still couldn't cut it. What a freaking dimwit.

Can a non-graduate be considered an real-alum? Rupp never graduated.
Alumnus:
noun, plural alumni [uh-luhm-nahy, -nee]
1. a graduate OR former student of a specific school, college, or university.
Any more questions?

It's not supposed to be a high bar. "Alumni" has never been a lofty designation. Every adult I know is an alumnus/alumna of one institution or another (or a current student).
I don't call myself an alumnus of the universities I graduated from because I want to show that I've achieved something. If I mention it at all, it's usually only to point out my association to the universities for the purpose of finding a common bond with other alumni. It's akin to telling people that I'm from a particular town. It's just a way to communicate something about your personal history and institutional bonds. People can decide for themselves whether they've been sufficiently involved with the institution to for such a bond.

Rupp never graduated. Any more obvious answers you need?

WHAT??? Now the gardener, maid, burger flipper, high school drop out... everyone is now a alum. Millennials have lowered the bar: Everyone is an ALUM (Everyone is a WINNER).
It is hard to even imagine someone with those resources being unable to graduate from a place like Oregon. Rupp always struck me as being particularly vapid, but he is seriously lacking in brainpower.

Not to mention that he is truly one of the goofiest looking people on the planet.

If someone had offered me a six figure salary while I was 25 credits short of graduating, I would not have graduated either. WTF is the point of graduating when the thing you were working toward (gainful employment) was put in front of you prior to receipt of the diploma?

Not sure what you mean. I said "every adult I know." I don't know gardeners, maids, and burger flippers.
Again, the bar isn't supposed to be high. Alumnus/Alumna status just a designation that people use to communicate something about their past to others. If you want to show that you've cleared a high bar, you'd talk about academic awards, publications, etc.
LOL ... offered a job to run fast only as long as you can run fast. Early-mid 30s and you have nothing to fall back on. Being an entry level hire in your late thirties, competing against recent grads in their twenties ... your post-running life is going to suck big-time.

The last 25 credits could easily be completed at any point in time. With a degree as easy as marketing, you could knock out the rest of the degree in a single semester if you wanted to. You could also wrap up the remainder of the classes over the course of a few years very easily (there are only so many hours per day that you can devote to running).
And a runner certainly has opportunities to build a resume. Again, there's only so much time one can spend running. Even volunteer work would give you the opportunity to create some work product and show what you can do.
Anyway, do you think Rupp won't have doors opened as a result of his running?
Wrong. There is a time limit to finishing a degree. Six college years have passed since 2009. TEN college years have passed since 2005, when Rupp started. Unless Rupp is gets some kind of special exemption--he shouldn't--he needs to start over, maybe only partially, because degree requirements change with time and technologies, and other reasons.
Rupp has no PR value. Nike has never offered any Rupp-branded gear. There is a reason for that: business related, Rupp's major, interestingly.
I would assume Rupp got his degree sometime after he graduated. If not, he still has connections to work for Nike. And it would be smart for him to save some of the money he made. Still has a few years left to make more. The dude has it made.
Very few runners "have it made" after their running careers are over. The few that have know how to market themselves. There is no indication that Rupp has any interest in marketing himself.
Rupp is probably a millionaire, he won't need a job. At worst he can start "Rupp's Running Wearhouse" and sell shoes.
Animal House is a terrible movie btw. One of those 70's things that hipper-than-thou boomers never STFU about.
Ok, that was one of the strangest things I've ever seen.
In any case, how many people who watch that will recgonize Galen Rupp? Maybe 0.01% of the overall population and 100% of the LetsRun population.

More than recognize the gray-haired guys in that video?
Personally, I thought it was in bad taste. This is 2015. They could have represented more women alumni if they had non-football players.
I'd do the same wrote:

First of all, what major malfunction does he have that he couldn't even complete 3 years of courses in more than 4 years? At such a low level college to boot. He was no more of a student than any south central thug on the quackers football team.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
