One mroe thing. Multi-time 5000 champion Meseret Defar - whom it was reported was going to try to defender her title isn't here in Beijing.
We got the following comment about her from her agent Mark Wetmore.
Mark Wetmore wrote:
1. Meseret was preparing to race in the World Champs through the year. She had a pass for the 5000m, so she was not as concerned about the time in that event. We planned a 10000m at the end of July, but she wasn’t quite ready, so she didn’t do it.
2. Meseret wasn’t able to race in Beijing because of a problem with her shin. It started bothering her in training, and she went to see Dr. Mueller in Munich to treat it. He advised it was the beginning of a stress fracture, so she should rest. She reluctantly did, so she was not able to compete in Beijing. She should return to training this week.
3. Meseret will run some road races in the fall. Final schedule is not finalized. She will focus on indoor in 2015-16 winter, with a possible eye towards World Indoor Champs, -

4:55.82 at 1600. Japanese are leading it out as it's top 5 and next 5.
6:10.57 at 2k.
They are running single file and have bee doing so the whole race but it's on 15:25 pace. -
7:45 at halfway and now the pace is really slowing down. Looks like Nicole Tully is just going to be one of the two non Kenyans/Ethiopians across the line.
3200-9:57.76 -
I forgot Abbey D was on the team!
One of my fave female athletes. Tough, determined, beautiful, and CLEAN!
Crush it Abbey. CRUSH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I refuse to watch this first heat as Dibaba is in it. I'll tune in for the second. -
I take that back. Mimi Belete of Bahrain is out there as well.
So basicalll there is only 1 auto spot up for grabs if you assume the Kenyans/EThiopians and her are locks.
11:14.26 at 3600.
So Stephe Twell, Susan Kuijken and Tully have taken a risk here by not kicking.
3 t goand the pace increases and Tully is dropped. As is twell.
Kuijeken has gone. She is a lock.

4400- 13:38.13
Top 5 are 40 meters cldear. Behing tghem are twell and japansee. Tully is about 8 meters behidn those two. Tully needs to try to rally and out least outkick the japanese women. -
Tully is 2 seconds behind japan and twell at the bell. And her gap is growing. not looking good.
-
65.43 hand time last lap. leader to leader. So stupid for them to race like that.
Tully had a 75 last lap and will ned some help. 15:41.03 for 8th. -
Lowe goes out at the opening height of 1.80. Man the US champ doesn't even get a height.

US continues to sh*t the bed...what else is new? -
Wow that was the first japanese (suzuki) runner I;ve seen that didnt get dropped after the first move
wow, mixing it up better than we are with the kenyans -
Hat 2 not going well or the Americans. D'Agostino and Hall hae both been dropped and they're not going fast enough to get a time qualifier. Tully may be able to get in on time, though.
-
Nicole Tully into the final on time, the other two Americans (D'Agostino and Hall) are out
-
Ayana pulling away with 800m to go in the 2nd heat and online coverage went off.
Did that happen to anyone else? -
yea my stream stopped working too… lame
-
Ayana looked just incredible. That battle with Dibaba will be fun.
US got one in. She won't have a sniff at a medal but good run none the less. -
Abby D.: 16:16. WTF?
-
stream back. sucked i missed the last two laps
-
Christ, Abby D and Hall were almost
ONE MINUTE
back of Ayana
