Ethiopians in the mens 5000m

Except for Dibaba and that silver medaling guy in the men's marathon (where all the big pre-favs fell apart) Ethiopia has had a disastrous WC so far - for one the best guy on the men's 10000 meters (their parade event) was 50 seconds behind Mo, 45 behind Rupp and almost got lapped, Merga even walked off the track early in that one, obviously unable to keep up in the heat.

Remember, Ethiopia is not a democracy, only superstar Dibaba and the marathoners were not forced to be there taking training orders from someone not their regular coach in the weeks leading up - My theory is that that pre champ camp must have been one helluva overdone barbeque - they've all looked totally overcooked so far in finals.

It wasn't very hot. It was night with a slight breeze.

Even if it was hot, that doesn't explain why the Ethiopians (and everyone else) were out of the lead pack before 20:00. Some NCAA guys should be able to keep up that long. It was ridiculous. There's just no one in good shape in the distance events anymore. When you have a 1500m guy dominating for 4 years, this should be obvious.

I was wondering what happened and why they put Merga in instead of Edris.I think the medals are goi g to HG, Farah ans Kejelcha. True is 4th or 5th and Rupp and Hill would be top 10.If I were Ethiopia. I would have Merga take it out pretty fast then have HG blast it at 3000 and tell the kid to shadow Farah until the last 400.

The x-factor is the Kenyans, THEIR pre champ camp has obviously nailed getting people in top shape AND they're on that national medals-are-just-falling-into-our-pockets-every-day-out-there momentum that sometimes gets contestants in the latter events to overperform as if it medaling was contaigious through the team's breakfast buffé or something.

There are several factors influencing our great shape among them POTUS.

We were supposed to have our trials in the last week of July but coincidentally, POTUS was in town dancing to Kenyan music.

So, we held it/them on or about the 8th of August.

The US had held theirs much earlier and I htink most of your athletes had started plateauing.

Just my thoughts.

NOw, pertinent to the issue at hand (Ethiopia), Ethiopia could win the 5k through Kejelcha and NO ONE ELSE.

However, as a patriot and someone who is always a little bit biased, that honour will go to one Caleb Ndiku. He will win it for us.

HG has as good a shot as Kejelcha and Ndiku. All of which are not great chances

Both amirew Gebremeskal are washed up , Ethiopias hope lay in the hands of Gebrhiwet and the 18 yrs old Kejelcha both will medal behind Mo Farah . The Kenyans wont be at the podium at the 5k the same way the Ethios didnt make it in the 10k.

As for Merga dude shouldnt be around at all , hes been none factor since 2011 when he scored a bronze at World , as some point you gotta move on , you can't live in the past 4ever !
