I have a feeling that the gap between Granada and Great Oak will continue to increase as the season goes on. Great Oak looked incredibly underwhelming at Bob Firman, losing to so many unranked teams.
The gap between #2 and #3 for Granada was pretty large at Woodbridge.
Not sure I agree with that. Several of there guys didn't even run track. It is possible that they crushed the summer and will be great. We shall see.
Kickapoo lost to a bunch of MO teams. Doesn’t seem likely that they will be the best team in the state anymore. And all 7 are seniors too. Next year will be a rebuilding year for them.

Niwot is still ranked too high. They lost to Mountain Vista which is another team that won’t make nxn.
I think it’s absurd that Saratoga is still #1. They actually almost lost to FM NY once.
Buchanan’s insanity is on a whole different level than last year. And last year’s Buchanan team was really good in itself. In addition to everyone back they added a couple of good freshmen. Buchanan has never won nationals before so I’m sure this will make them hungry to finally do it this year. Especially for the 3 seniors they have on varsity. Not sure how accurate speed ratings are these days but based on those, Saratoga probably wouldn’t even make the podium. Yes they did return Hart/Bush/Belisle/2 wheelers, and not only does one of the wheelers have yet to race but they actually did lose some key runners from last year including Kurto.

Nike XC Town Twilight has lots of nationally ranked teams mostly from MW, but also has Jesuit LA. This should clean up these rankings a bit, especially amongst the teams in the MW region. Kickapoo is the only solid MO team that isn’t racing there, but they seem to be doing worse against other MO teams as the season goes on. And they won state last year with pretty much all juniors. now they are all seniors. Maybe they will bounce back at state.
Literally came here to say this. The Texas teams are very, very underestimated and/or overlooked by the national rankers. It also seems like, as insane as Southlake Carroll is this year, a handful of TX teams are gonna try to beat them at state. this includes Coppell, the woodlands, vandegrift, and Atascocita.
Realistically, I don’t think any of them will beat SLC, but they all have some potential to fight for the second spot at NXR unless Jesuit LA changes their mind of which national meet to compete in.
Via process of elimination, unfortunately, Atascocita is the one out of the picture. They lost to all of these teams and their 4-5 gap has already been closed. So I don’t see them doing any better unless their 2-3 gap closes. Tough break for them since they came oh-so-close to making the podium the last 2 years and now all those guys are seniors :(
And this year it’s looking unlikely for them to make the podium either.
Coppell, the woodlands, and Vandegrift will be significantly better than they are now once their 4-5 gap closes.
Vandegrift will actually be really good next year too. They return 3 scorers, another varsity freshman, and there are some other good 8th graders. there seems to be a freshman scoring for them every year. Interestingly enough, i listened to Kevin Sanchez interview and he said that last year was Vandegrift’s first state appearance.
Since all scorers are in different grades, it seems like Vandegrift will be up there in the coming years. In the past it’s always been the woodlands and SLC and now there’s a new Texas team looking to have the same tradition as them. Vandegrift.
We will see how well Atascocita will reload. They have been really good for the last 3 years.
I think this is the most competitive year for Texas there has ever been in a while.
The Dyestat rankings don’t make since. In the California regional rankings Los Altos is ranked #3 and Newbury Park #4.
In the US rankings Newbury Park is ranked #18 and Los Altos is no where to be seen.
How is that? Maybe Letsrun run can bring this error to Dyestat.
The error is either Los Altos is ranked in correctly in the regional rankings or Dyestat is using the preseason rankings in their US rankings. Both can’t be correct.

The great things about following HS XC at a national level, that there are a million runners, thousands of races, and kids are developing so fast, also has to make it extremely difficult to stay on top of rankings.
I looked at the Tullyrunners rankings and half of the top 10 so far are juniors. Everyone was sure the top 10 this year would be seniors, I’m not so sure.
Farragut below Belen!? Did they look at the Southern Showcase results? If not, how did they even know about how good this team is? Last year they were mediocre, they were young, and also didn’t have that guy from Canada who is their #3 now. University WV? They lost LJE and another senior. Probably not top 5 in the SE, but idk. I haven’t seen them race against other SE teams. Dowling Catholic so high? Woah dyestat slow your roll. Never knew that the Heartland region deserves this much love. They will probably win the heartland region this year but won’t do much at NXN. This is a weak region. Dowling only got 9th At NXR last year. They won griak by only 21 points. Over a team that isn’t ranked. IMO, neither team should be ranked. Rather have a TX team in there. Great Oak lost to a bunch of unranked teams at Bob Firman and they are still on here?????

California boys: I don’t see any team being better than NP or Granada here anymore. The Clovis invite should fix the rest.
Heartland: Wayzata put 4 guys under 16:01, something no one on that team did in that same race last year. So they might be #1 in the state/region again. They were last year and didn’t lose many scorers. We will see how the other teams do going forward.
Midwest: Looks good. Nothing was more helpful than the Nike Town Twilight.
New York: I agree with this top 5. not necessarily in this order though. But Monroe Woodbury is as good as Corning/St A/Fairport. Manhattan should give us a better idea. But Fairport / Saratoga won’t be in that and MW will be in a different race.
Northeast: CBA/UC looks good. Don’t know much about other teams but those are the only 2 I see making NXN.
Northwest: How has no one been able to notice how well Eastlake did against Jesuit? Central Catholic ahead of Lincoln…For what?
South: No Coppell??? Still??? They beat Atascocita not much time ago.
Southeast: Looks pretty good. Brentwood could win this if they find a number 5. Wando SC could be a darkhorse top 5 if they close the 3-5 gap. Oh wait, they already beat a team in the top 5- Carrollton.
Southwest: Herriman is an easy #1. Teams 2-5 seem similar. Look for American Fork to maybe challenge for a top 2 spot if they keep improving and their 1-5 all race the way they should.
