Anyway, Biden has proven not once but twice that he's really not a good Presidential candidate. Which means the Democrats' very best plan B may be...Al Gore. Yuck.
You forgot Bernie Sanders.
Don't see the money people in the Democratic party allowing Bernie Sanders [or Elizabeth Warren if she changes her mind and runs] to be the nominee. They would be ok with Biden in theory, but in practice his history of shooting himself in the foot, like, with a shotgun at close range, gives him very little chance of surviving the process.
Which brings us to...Al Gore. Still "only" 67, palatable to all major elements of the Democratic party + perhaps even exciting to people who think addressing climate change should be the nation's top priority.
Gore self-destructed when he ran in 1988 - who can forget his disastrous gastronomic walking tour of NYC with Ed Koch?* - but he did make it all the way to the finish line in 2000. Too bad he quit when he got to that finish line - still can't believe he conceded on election night 2000, then had to unconcede the next day. Maybe the Democrats should enlist Salazar for post-race appeals. No way a Salazar candidate concedes like that!
