Trying to find some info on the web, but how many guys did Lydiard coach that broke 1:50...Snell is the only one I can find.

I think John Davies managed it but there's no indication of it on the web so I can't say for sure. Really, Snell was the only runner Lydiard coached who ran the 800 seriously.
In other words Lydiard got lucky with his stable. If champions were everywhere he would have a had a run of medalists from Venezuela.

If you're saying PEDs aren't effective and we should just allow them I can't agree.
I am saying that there is no such thing as a PED, it's all in your head. EPO supposedly improves oxygen transport, but in reality, the contril of oxygen supply and demand comes from the brain.
Drug testing, and anti-drug rhetoric just hypes up the belief in drugs doesn't it? Surely you can't deny that?

Honestly jono, stop it.
Of course I can deny that but you're going to believe what you believe and there's no point arguing. If you want to relate this to Lydiard I can tell you that while he's gone and never really paid much attention to the drug thing all the athletes I know who got Olympic medals using his method will tell you that the sport is much dirtier than most fans recreational runners would believe.

J.R. is right, "anyone who thinks they need drugs to be the best they can be is a brainwashed fool"
You, evidently fit right into that category.
I'm interested in real physiology, not pseudoscience. I want the sport to progress.

HRE, you don't understand Lydiard philosophy. This, sadly applies to most so-called Lydiardists.
And I'm asking you how drug testing and anti-drug rhetoric (you do know what that word means don't you?) doesn't hype up the belief in so-called 'Performance Enhancing Drugs'?
Can you even approach this question intelligently?
Jono/wellnow is deluded/sick and has been obsessed with this the last decade on letsrun. Don't feed the troll. Don't let him ruin the thread. He is not a mentally healthy person, so don't expect him to show any consideration for the thread.

They need drugs to be the best they and the drugs can be combined. Slight difference. It's no longer just the best "you" can be.
Real physiology. Maybe you should take a class.

Could you show some consideration for a rational viewpoint regarding real physiology and psychology?
No?
Look in the mirror. There is the fool.
It's really quite simple, people who take PEDS run faster than they did before. Sometimes much faster.
It makes no difference if they improve the body systems or if the athlete believes they do.
"Do not fear the Africans. The negroid can be beaten if you break his spirit. The only way to do this is to run lots of miles. Then you will have victory!"
"Long after my methods have become outdated my die-hard fans will still insist that my system is the sh*t."
"I predict that long after I die, people will make quasi-racist statements attributed to me on a message board."
Wow, that one was spot on. In all seriousness, "train, don't strain" is my favorite.
HRE, I have enjoyed what you have added to the discussion. Sorry people are being idiots.
John Davies ran the 880y in 1:50.1 which should convert to under 1:50 for the 800 if I did the math right.
Halberg ran 1:51.7 for the 800, and even has at least one win over Snell before Snell joined the group.
Bill Bailie did 880y in 1:52.3
I think I have a better grasp of Arthur's philosophy from my time with him and Barry Magee than most people do. I have no idea if you and I can approach this question intelligently. For one thing, I don't see an actual question. For another, why would we even want to? We each believe what we believe. I think you're naive but I'm not going to change your mind, you aren't going to change mine, and I don't care enough about what you believe to bother trying.
Thanks. I don't really think there's much in the line of drug quotes from Arthur at all, assuming we're staying on topic. He didn't pay much attention to the subject. As I said, the one talk we had about drugs involved the Easy Germans who he thought were clean and has pretty much been proven wrong there.

So there is so such thing as anemia then?
