This. Always annoys me how the Kenyan "journalists" make these sensational headlines when the athlete didn't say anything like that.
It'd be great to see the Kenyans use teamwork to try and take down Farah (especially in the 10,000 where I think it has best chance of working), but I'm not getting my hopes up. Put yourself in any one of their shoes. Are they willing to risk their own race so that one of them has the potential of winning, or would they rather run their own race and hope that they're best of the rest and can get silver or bronze?
A lot of money/prestige comes with even a silver or bronze. Hard for some of these guys (especially the ones who haven't been there/medalled before) to risk a DNF or DFL for an outside shot at gold.
True. However, Athletics Kenya could do something like:
"OK Bob Kipsomethingorother, here's the deal: You take this through 8k at so that Farah craps his pants and your teammate Fred Kipsomethingorother will tuck in and then try for the win. In exchange, if you do get to 8k at , we give you $25,000 and next year we select you for the Olympic team third slot provided you prove your fitness by running by ."
Nah, this is Athletics Kenya. They'll just do as they always do and hope for different results - i.e. the classic definition of insanity.
